Woohoo! Another Alex owner! You'll love your baby (DNA-sexed boy?) and the time you spend with him now will determine the kind of adult bird he becomes. Kinda goes without saying, but y'know?
I tell this to every new Alex owner, but it mightn't apply to your bird. Some Alexes prefer not to be touched. You can try to desensitise your bird to enjoy scratching and patting on the head, but if it doesn't work, don't be disappointed and don't push the issue. My pair *hates* being touched and they get really antsy if I keep trying. Doesn't worry me. They love me to bits and always want to be on me when they're out of their cage.
My only other tip is that, being parakeets, Alexes just *love* to fly! If you can find a way to allow yours to do flights through your house, he will love you for it. It's good for the bird's overall muscle tone and bodily health. Also, if he ever gets out, you'll know he has the means to save himself from cats or hawks who might chase him. Alexandrines are just *beautiful* in full flight and very acrobatic.
