Pineapple green cheek and peach faced lovebird.
Well, the gcc I got with a lovebird is making steps. It still bites, but by saying no it will eventually put its head down for scratches. And seems to want to interact with us, while
The lovebird has gone from never biting to breaking skin now. And, wants nothing to do
With us.

Just make sure to allow some time between the biting and the head scratches. You don't want to teach him that biting is a way of asking for a head scratch. They catch on quickly, lol...

it bites, i pull back and say NO..
repeat.
repeat.

but eventually it stops and puts head down..
if it does, I close the door and leave alone a bit

Ok try this will any and all birds it a trick the can learn fast and should help avoid bites.
Crook your finger in the "come here" motion now turn it over and move your finger and say scratches or scratch scratch, then move the same hand forward wiggling your finger slowly and start giving a scratch as you bird starts to lean into or puff up for the scratch stop and pull back do it again "scratches!" in a very short time the mere sight of that wiggling finger will have him bowing his head and presenting for a scratch. I like to call it an interspieces sign languages it was taught to me by a beautiful Too who bit the snot out of me for being forward enough to think she was that kind of bird who let just anyone reach up and give her a scratch. Since then I have employed this with alot of birds who learned it quickly and never fail to present for a scratch when the sign is offered. Oh side note if after your bird learns this trick and has show a correct understanding of the sign should he/she seem to ignore the offer take no for an answer and wait awhile before offering again. understanding works both ways.
