GCC likes females over males

I bought a Pineapple Green Cheek about a week ago, and it seems to like females a lot more. I live at home with my mum, my sister is down for the holidays and my girlfriend spends about half the week here. It will barely sit on me if any of the above people are home. Even my sister, who is scared of birds and has barely had anything to do with my GCC, seems to be preferred over me. I take her out of the cage, put her on my shoulder and she instantly flies to my mum. As soon as my mum gets home she flies to her. It's like I'm only an option if I'm the only person home, otherwise females are better.

It's a female, and I was told she'd probably bond better with males. This doesn't seem to be the case though. I mean, she's fine spending time with me if I'm alone, otherwise it's straight to the nearest female. Am I just out of luck?

From my experience it doesn't matter what gender the bird is, some birds just like certain people better. Was the person you got the GCC from a female?

Give it time, you've only had her a week! It takes awhile for them to settle in:)

Birds can be quite gender bias huh? This isn't really uncommon, some parrots just prefer a certain sex over the other. Some even despise and can become vicious towards the gender they don't like so I would say your'e lucky on that part.

It sounds like your mom is becoming your conure's favorite person. Keep trying to bond with her, you might not have that special connection like your mom does but you two would have a good relationship. Don't rush anything, give it time. A week is like a month in human time when it comes to birds!
