Hi everyone!!
First post. Have been lurking here for weeks reading all of the great posts from you guys... "Thanks So Much" for all of the great information!
We recently lost our Cinnamon GCC "Shingun"... a VERY sad day for our family!! We are missing him so so much!! It is interesting how a bird can become such a huge part of a Family... and it is also interesting to see how hard it is for others around us to understand the enormity of the lost of our pet bird (but I don't have to tell you guys that... you get it).
Anyways... we would appreciate your feedback on our huge decision of our next Fid!
Let me tell you a little about our family, in hope of that helping you understand better on how to advise us. We are Mom and Dad in our late forties, and 3 kids 8, 6, and 5. We travel to see family allot throughout the year, and that includes our Fid coming along.
We all would love on him pretty much the same, and he was very well socialized with all of us. He was always able to hang out on someone's shoulder after we got up and then off to school/ work in the morning... and again just as soon as the kids got home, and into the night. (he did decide on a favorite person once in awhile, depending on what was going on and what he wanted to be a part of at the time )
He would be overly nippy (much to hard sometimes) when he was trying to make sure we were considering his wants, and/ or his interest in being involved in what ever was going on - that is the only thing we are not missing as much. He was a snuggler, and loved to be a part of our family life and it's day to day activities. As long as he was a part of everything going on, he was happy.
We loved his outgoing, mischievous, playful, loving attitude that is known for the GCC... and this is a huge part of the experience we do not want to miss out on.
We were well on our way to finding another GCC, when we happened to learn about Jardine's.
We are intrigued in getting a Jardine - because they sound in writing to be allot like a GCC, but would allow us to have a slightly new/ different experience with our new Fid. But we do not want to give up all of the qualities of the GCC, those are important to us.
I guess what we need your guy's help on, is understanding what we are gaining, losing, and changing in considering a Jardine's. We will be meeting our first Jardine's this weekend... but it is so hard to tell the true personality of a Fid in just meeting them for the first time. We understand, all to well that each Fid is an individual, and that is a huge part of the experience. We are travelling almost 3 hours to meet him. He comes from a good breeder, and sounds like a real sweetheart that comes to everyone. He is a 6 mo old male.
Please feel free to free form your thoughts and feedback on anything that comes to mind in reading this. I really appreciate that kind of discussion and feedback!
A couple of things come to mind in writing this, that hopefully we can get some feedback on also:
- Will he tend to stay a sweetheart as he gets older, with good socialization?
- Can they be a one person bird?
- Do they learn to understand what harm they can do in hard biting a person, and will he work with you to solve that?
- Are their "terrible twos" something a family can work through together... or does it become a thing where only one member of the family is going to be able to work through it with him?
- Is there a difference in personality between a male and female?
Thanks So Much for reading this, and in advance for your feedback!!
