Hi all,

My name is Louis, im nearly 22 years old and i am currently a beginner Zoo Keeper in Essex (Bird Team:))

I am hoping soon to become an owner of a green cheek conure. And i know there are millions of threads on cage size, but i still need advice.

I just need someone to help me with the following :)

- Will my GCC be ok with 2 small dogs? Im not planning on letting the bird out with the dogs, but will it be ok with occasional barking?

- The cage size. Do i need a a big bulky parrot style cage?

- Noise, i know they are the quietest of conure breeds. Im not guessing they are as loud as a salmon crested cockatoo or anything, but on the same level as a cockatiel? I dont mind the noise just thinking of neighbors if the bird is constently screaming.

A big thanks to anyone who can help me. I know people are thinking you work in a zoo and you need help??!! but like i said im new...ish.

Thank you. :green2:

I have had my yellow sided gcc for a few months . Yes they need a big cage with smaller size spacing such as a flight cage. The usable space for her is 32 inches long 22 inches deep and 35 inches from top to bottom. I t is on a wheeled stand which brings the whole cage to about 65 inches high with a bottom shelf. when you put all the toys and perches they need the room and they are very active little birds and love to climb and play. As far as noise she is not that noisy at all . My quaker parrot is a lot noisier. I have been up close to a sun conure when he screamed and that made my ears ring for a while. Even when chiquita calls me It is not enough to bother anyone or go through walls. I highly recommend them:)

Our GCC is very quiet you rarely know he's around. We also have a min daschund and a beagle. They don't bother the birds. But I also don't leave them unattended. I can sit on the couch with any of the birds and the dogs will lay next to me without a problem.

Our GCC was in a parakeet size cage without a problem. But the g2 and GCC got along so good that the now live together in a larger cage.

The GCC loves to snuggle and will climb inside my over shirt and peek his head out now and then or just go a little deeper and snuggle. He even climbs in my shirt pocket and hangs out. Hangs out on my shoulder. Never bites or gets nippy. Our GCC is truly a great bird.

Good luck with yours.

I have a female green cheek, about 5 months old, maybe close to 6 now. She is obnoxious, not shy at all and if I start eating or playing with something.. SHE WANTS IT lol They're very silly but also sweet birds.

Do not worry about the dogs. Barking will not bother them ;3 Wild parrots SCREAM to each other to socialize. If anything, the barking will keep your little bird entertained. My mom has a noisy husky puppy and Astrid(my green cheek) will screech back sometimes haha Provides her some good entertainment.

As for noise, they aren't screamy like other conures. Sometimes Astrid will do three loudish screeches a few times and be done, and that happens just once or twice a day if anything. A bird is more likely to be noisy/loud if the environment they live in is really loud. My birds get noisy when there's suddenly loud noise. Sometime birds will try and be louder than that noise, like a competition.

I wouldn't worry about a green cheek bothering neighbors, though. I live in a condo and my room is sharing a wall with the condo next door, plus I have a senegal parrot who makes more noise than my conure haha Green cheeks can even make okay birds for an apartment sometimes too.

Cage size. My conure is in a decent-sized cage. It's a little bigger than a general cockateil-sized cage. Conures are energetic so if you can get as big a cage as possible and fill it with fun stuff! An A&E flight cage like the one listed below would be perfect c:

If you provide lots of different types of toys and variety of perches, swings, ropes, etc.. to make a fun entertaining environment then sometimes it reduces noisiness for some birds because they'll be so occupied with everything lol

Good diet, too c:
