Hi everyone! I hope someone here can help me. I have a 1 yr old GCC and he does this weird wing fluttering thing. Its not when he see's me coming and wants attention. He does it when he is already sitting on me. Sometimes he will have his butt on me, or he is squished up against something, but if I take my hand and rub his back or put my whole hand on his back he makes these weird little noises and his wings flutter really fast. Im guessing its a type of mating thing but I havent seen anything online. Thank you guys so much for your help!

Yep, sounds like he may be...uh...pleasuring himself on you.
It's nothing to worry about, no harm done, but if you don't want him doing it then I suggest you don't touch his back - that's kind of a 'cue' for birds to get into mating mode.

If a bird lowers their body (but they don't raise their butt) and quivers/flutters their wings, while leaning in a specific direction, they usually want to go somewhere.

Although, in your case, it sounds like it could be a mating behavior.... if so, I do not recommend "mating" with your bird. If this is in fact the behavior that's going on, you may need to set your GCC down and let him 'cool off'. It would also be recommended to train him to do some new behaviors, such as turn around, big wings, wave, shake or anything else that would be incompatible to his hormonal behavior.

By "ignoring" the behavior, you could be inadvertently reinforcing it. Instead, you need to try and redirect the behavior before it happens and encourage the new behavior.

Pay attention to the tail feathers, if they are swishing and rattling, then he's grinding against you, which should be discouraged. It's better if he finds a toy or towel or something to do it on (lol) it's a release that doesn't involve you. It curbs the hormonal crazies if they're able to do it on something other than you.

Ugh. Thank you all so much! I kinda figured that's what it was but I wasn't 100% sure. Ill start putting him up in his cage when he does it or try teaching him a new trick or something. Thank you all again! :)
