Hi, I'm making an aviary and I've heard that ideally you want wire mesh 2mm thick for small birds, (12 gauge), but for a conure which is what I have 1.5mm (14/15 gauge) is good. The only good wire mesh I can find is 19 gauge (which is .9mm thick). Is that too risky/not okay? If not do you know where I can find wire mesh that was galvanized after it was hot dipped?
Take care regarding the terms Galvanized and Hot Dipped, since both are in fact the same action. The temperature of the Zinc is the defining factor as to whether the coating have extensive flash or moderate flash. Remember that Zinc is classified as a heavy metal and is considered dangerous to Parrots and Children alike.
Ugh, my husband was going to start building Levi's aviary this weekend.
We were considering untreated wood & glavanized chicken wire netting. If that's not an option, what is? I called my CAV but she isn't in today & the other Vet wasn't sure.
I'll continue to research this, but would greatly appreciate your input on materials.
Thanks so much.
