galah refuses to eat new roudybush pellets

Hello all,

I'm in a weird situation. I bought a new bag of roudybush daily maintenance pellets that were a different size (mini) and my galah refuses to eat them. She has eaten both the crumbles and small size pellets without a problem before, but for some reason she refuses to eat the mini ones. My other two birds, cockatiel and eclectus, have no objections to eating the mini sized pellets and love them. My galah has refused to eat the pellets to the point that she starves herself. She will eat the old crumble sized pellets however. Is there anything I can do to get her to eat the new ones?

When you say she eats crumble sized pellets, do you mean the crumbs or is that a roudybush pellet size?

If you do mean the crumbs, try crushing some up for her, eventually leaving more and more of them intact.
Or if you have some of the bigger pellets left, combine the two for her.

Edit: thought of something else, if you don't have bigger pellets left, try giving the mini ones with treats like fruit or veggies.

I would definitely not starve her, if she doesn't like them then she just doesn't. If you need to use the bag, maybe you could put some in a baggie and crush them up for her. A rolling pin might work, or whatever method you can think of. I know it's frustrating to have to work with your birds if they like different things. I just made a huge batch of cooked rice and beans and fresh food for my macaw and she won't eat a bite. After all that work I was like whaaaattt? She'll eat her dried zupreme pellets and goldenfeast brand products (nothing cooked apparently because she hates the cooked formula ones) and a little fresh fruit with tiny bits of greens worked in. Nothing else so far.

They have high metabolisms so they must have food in their system so please make sure she eats something.

Psittaciformes, the crumble is a size that's usually for smaller birds, like my tiel. The small size pellet is bigger than the mini, and Devyn has eaten that size without any fuss.

Minimaker, I'll try crushing her mini pellets to see if that will get her to eat them. I gave her the mini sized pellets right after I bought the bag, and she did eat one. I guess she decided they don't taste good or something, as when I give them to her, she drops it immediately. When they're in her food bowl, she tosses them out.

Kiwiberry does that a lot with pellets, she will only eat them certain times of the day.
Try moistening a couple and squish them together, or crush some up and mix then with say Apple, like push it into the slice.

You could also try birdie bread, there are lots of good recipes here!

And remember to be patient, don't give up!

I had a similar problem with my White Bellied Caique. It just takes time. I don't think he recognized the larger pellets as food. Just make sure you don't starve your baby--some people think they'll eventually eat, but some will get to a point where they're super weak and that's just not a good way to go about helping your bird haha.
