So my parrots always have free roam of the room, unless I’m out for a number of hours or there is no-one else at home. It’s safe and when I’m around they tend to spend most of their time on their play gym, making plenty of noise, flying around or honestly just causing chaos.

But, whenever I leave the room for extended periods (let’s say half an hour) I come back and they have all returned to the open cage and they’re all peaceful and (reasonably) quiet, despite still having full access to the rest of the room.

The only conclusion I can draw is that my presence clearly inspires their craziness.

Lol.

that's all you can ask for in a parrot!!

sounds like they've worked out the routine to me, when you're around they get to be out playing and having fun but when you're gone it's cage time. Funny little behaviors they all have

When I forget to close Kermit’s cage (which is easy to do because it has many doors), I usually hear Kermit’s ā€œscreech of victoryā€. It’s like ā€œI’m out and you’re not! Na na na na na!ā€ Then I get suspicious, and walk past the bird room. I look up, and I see two eyes peering down at me through a tiny crack in the door. He either flies up on top of the door or flies to the floor and peers through the bottom crack. I always lock the birdroom door, but somehow sneaky Kermit manages to spy on me while I’m in the hallway.

clark has some of the same habits, if I"m home he's on me or on the headboard as I read. In his cage when I'm sleeping. When I go to work he's free to roam the house but he stays in the bedroom.

When I return home he's either in his cage, or playing in the dresser drawer. Either way the bedroom is bird proofed so he has his cage and his "room cage". Someday I might find him in the hall or living room but we'll evaluate that if he goes there.
