Hello there

gXusj5D.jpg

This is my new Conure.(still trying to figure a name out thinking about Hazel or Sasha) Sex unknown, age unsure possibly around a year old. This bird was given to me by someone who could no longer care for and Im pretty sure wasn't givinv her the proper care to begin with. It seems she may have an old foot injury or prehaps born with feet issues. On one of her feet the front toes come to the front when she perchs. I can postion her feet properly and she will hold them correctly for a short period of time. But i did notice the past 2 days she has started to try and postion the correctly.

She has a good appetite and is very sweet and cuddly. So im wondering now that she has proper perches in variouse sizes and texture do you think she will continue to improve? Also im a bit confused on if shes a Pineapple GCC or Cinnamon?

Does s/he have full perching strength? Or does s/he just lightly sit on your hand? Because my IRN has perfectly fine and functioning feet, but he's a lazy percher and will lightly grip my hand which results in the odd foot position that you see right now.

Watch to see how your new addition moves around - as s/he steps on perches or along the cage, are the toes always in that position? Or do they only do that when s/he is on you?

Silversage would definitely know the mutation. Looks like a cinnamon to me, but I'm never good at that distinction [emoji6]

She perches like this in her cage as well and tends to do more of a hop then the normal bird walk when on flat ground.

In that case it may have been an unhealed injury or may have to do with the perching muscles in his legs. I'd definitely do a vet check up.

She definitely is cute! :D . like Dinosrawr said she may have had a past injury to her foot. Also she may have bumblefoot which is caused by lack of perch variety. But either way i would take her to the vet just to get her checked out. Since she came from a friend and has unknown past information it may also be wise to get her completely checked up by the vet for health problems as well as her feet. Anyway i hope everything goes well for you and her and that she gets better, good luck. :41: :D

Ok. So I took her to work (I work at an animal hospital ). My boss thinks this might have just been a previous injury but if I continue to work with her it may improve some.We think really it just rests at a weird angle as she is able to pick up things with the foot. We did a fecal float to check for parasites. But otherwise appears to be ok we are just working to get her to eat a better deit with more veggies and what not. So in the end we are not to worried about her feet we just have to watch for sores.
