Parrots
Baby Quaker
Hi I'm new. My name is Jessica :)
So I have always loved tortoises and birds but decided to re home my three adult tortoises to a guy that had more and where they had more space.
I have 2 baby sulcatas who will grow to be 150/200lbs and a year-long redfoot with them
On to birds as a child my nana raised birds and I had a cockateal named Sylvester and my neighbor had a small parrot (not sure species) who only let me handle it. So I ended up taking it home since she was elderly.

I decided I wanted a bird again and was offered a 5week old quaker for $200 with delivery and all formula and bedding from a local breeder. Sammy is his name and we love him very much. Only had him a few days.

Before I got him I made a play tree and got a cage for barter its 5 feet tall!!
But I'm still considering getting a conure. I originally wanted a conure and a amazon in a few months (when there ready)

So now full of questions.

#1 I want to put my conure in with my Quaker. It's this okay or should I just get another quaker in blue :)?

#2 I've browsed the forum and see alot off questions on ill conures. Why?

#3 ive also seen alot of posts on alot of mean conures. Is this because they are not handled regularly? My birds will be handled daily always if not by me by family.

#4 a must diet? Mainly seeds okay with adding veggies or fruit couple times a week?

Thanks so much

1. I don't recommend in putting two birds together without trying out first to see how they act around one another so that means you'll need a second cage. You'll need it for quarantine regardless. I know the Quaker I've raised were cage territorial.

#3- Conures are known to get nippy sometimes expecially during maturity but can mostly be trained out of it. Yes regularly being handled by mutiple people does help by keeping him/her from over bonding to one person resulting being 'mean' to others besides that one person.
#4- A pelleted diet seems to be the best. But if fresh fruit and veggies were offered every day with just a seed mix then I think it would be OK.

I forgot what I was typing as I got busy at work and stopped at 1. LoL....

But someone finished it.. :)
