So I made the pretty chicken a fruit kabob this morning with kiwi and banana.

I am hoping to get her to eat more fruits than she does now. She likes kiwi, but I have not been able to convince her that bananas are good to eat. I've tried cutting them small, leaving them whole. I tried letting her eat them with me so she could see that are edible. That was an interesting experience. I took a bite off one end, and offered her the other end. She was angry. She almost seemed offended that I would even offer her something so "horrible".

She wasn't even very happy when I put it in her cage this morning. She actually thought she was going to bite me. I hadn't intended on taking her out yet, but after the attempted bite, I made her step up and come out for a couple minutes. Grouchy chicken. She is really picky with her fruits though. She will eat mango, kiwi, apple, pomegranate, and raspberries. That is it so far. We have tried cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, blackberries, banana, plums, grapes, oranges, lemons, and she wants nothing to do with any of it. I am happy that she is much less picky with her veggies, but it would be nice if she ate more fruit, especially since I end up eating her "leftovers" (What is left after cutting her fruit, not what's left in her bowl. Yuck!) I am so tired of kiwi and mango.

That looks good !. I wish BB would eat more veggies. Make sure he see's you eating them. Most of the time If I am eating it BB wants some. Even if I am just acting like I am eating it.

I have tried letting her eat a banana with me. She wants nothing to do with it, other than to murder it. That is what she has done with the kabob this morning too. She hung from the side of her cage as far from it as possible while still being able to reach it, as opposed to standing on the perch next to the kabob. Then she attacked it. She even growled at it. I think bananas will just have to be added to the list of "evil" foods.

I would try running some fruits (including a few "offensive" ones!) through the food processor to get in smaller bits so maybe she can't pick them all out.

I might try that. Last time I tried to offer banana, I put some small chopped pieces in with some pomegranate. She loves that, and I thought maybe if she got the pomegranate juice all over the banana pieces, they might be a little more appealing. There were a different color, that's for sure. Still no.

That's really strange! Bananas have always been something all my birds go for. Have you tried different ripenesses with the banana? Maybe wait until the peel starts turning brown so it's nice and sweet.

She had a pretty ripe banana today, and she has also had not so ripe ones, because I prefer them when they still have just a touch of green at the top.

That's how I like them, still a bit of green. I just usually end up buying too many and get a few brown ones that the birds get (though they always get the ends when I'm walking out of the kitchen!)

I wanted to try bananas with her again, so I asked my wife to pick up a bunch of them when she went grocery shopping. I figured that would give us each one or two, and leave one or two to try to give the pretty chicken. I think she may have misinterpreted what I meant as a bunch, so I may be making some banana bread this weekend. :p

I like my bananas slightly green too. If they have brown spots on them they either go into the trash or to my dad (he's soon to be 91) if I'm going to see him that very day.

That is a huge kabob. That much fruit would last my ekkie for weeks.

From what I've seen others say they feed their ekkies, I have a major piggy. However, her weight is consistent, so as long as she pigs out on fresh fruit and veggies, I'm perfectly okay with that. She'll nibble on a pellet or two every once in a while but not often.

Dexter would have made a holy mess with that kabob and loved every minute of it. He enjoys tossing his food while eating, which my dogs don't mind one bit. They are like hairy floor mops, they gobble up whatever he throws out of the cage.

I like my bananas on the less ripe side as well. I want them the day they are just starting to freckle, but not one day past that. I slice and freeze the ones that get too ripe and use them in fruit smoothies for myself and the kids. I gave Dexter some of the last smoothies I made, which were banana, strawberry, kiwi and he loved it. Maybe try giving Aria some smoothie or even a frozen banana slice.
