I recently lost my beloved Quaker who was my constant companion. I quickly realized I needed another feathered friend in my life. As I told my husband, I talked to Hugo more than him! :)
I went to our local Bird store and found Roy, a 10 year old YN Amazon. He took to me quickly, even though they told me he only likes men. I put a deposit down and spent an hour in the store with him, while he preened me. I went back today to have lunch with him He wasn't interested in the veggies I brought until I nibbled on them...then he ate them...my question...after he ate...he played with the zipper on my jacket and the suddenly nipped at my shirt (chest)...should I be concerned about biting? The first day he would slowly put his beak on my nose and take it off again and do that to my lips...but never came close to a bite! Now I have a small hole in my shirt!! :)

I love my Amazon & he is my best friend. It takes time to bond but there is ALWAYS a chance of being bitten by a bird. It's not an "if" it's a "when".

I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing Mr. Precious.

I'd say your "meeting" went very well. I have tons of tee-shirts with holes in them from my loving YN, She just loves to bite holes in them.Dosen't sound as if biting is a real issue. I'd jump on that bird.

Thank you! I am confident too, but after knowing my Quaker so well...it is scary to go into a new relationship and not quite know what to expect! We certainly did seem to bond quickly though...so hopefully it will be true when I get him home, after I baby proof my house!

I agree... Definately sounds like a connection. I think you made the right choice : )

Welcome to the Forum :)

Amazons are great Birds to have.. I wouldn't worry about the hole in your Shirt! Its a natural thing for them to do! I would say, Go for it!

Some birds just like to put holes in shirts. Mine don't do it too often, but I have enough birds, most of my cloths have holes in them. I would keep him away from your face if I was you. Amazons can have a nasty bite and better safer than sorry until you know all his quirks and the things that set him off. Most amazons do have certain triggers that get them all riled up and prone to lightning fast bites. After a few times, you learn those triggers and how to not make them happen and you don't get bit anymore. It sounds like you have a really good bird though. Congrats.

I don't think I have any shirts left with buttons... :D
