Fresh Currants

Are fresh currants bird safe? Our local supermarket had some and I wondered if they would be safe.

Red currants are on a safe fruit list. I wish my grocery store would carry fresh currants (I can only find dried currants). I will sometimes eat them off of the shrubs when I'm out hiking....but I know that there have been weeds sprayed in the vicinity, so I don't pick the berries for my birds.
