I have captured it in the travel cage and put it in my back room, but I can't keep it too long and I have no way to do a true quarantine.

It's a friendly little thing and has been eating out of my hand and asking for head scritches. Seems to have been bite pressure trained, since it hasn't hurt me, but more like pushes my hand away when it doesn't want me to do something.

It's all set up in my back room, even put a little night light in the corner just in case of night frights.

I will get the band number in the morning and start making calls to the vets in the area and the rescues, the bird hut and everywhere else I can think of. I already have this thread going and 3 in various places on craigslist.

I hope I can reunite it with it's owners.

Amanda, it's good to see you here. How are you and Zilla?

It was sweet of you to help the little guy. I hope you are able to reunite him with his folks, I bet they are frantic with worry.

Hi Amanda, good to see you again. I figure your new job has been keeping you busy lately. Good luck finding the owner. I sure hope they look in one of the places you've posted! This sounds like someone's good pet. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Allee! I log on from time to time and see what everyone is up to, but the new job is keeping me busy this summer, also the new business Mom and I started together and Miss Zilla has to have her time too. We are doing great! I put a couple pics of her in a thread earlier yesterday titled "Zilla you're not a conure"

Thanks Raven! My phone was ringing until after midnight last night with people trying to talk me into giving him to them. No one seems to have band numbers and they have some really creative reasons why! This is my first time trying to find the owners of a lost bird so I'm not really sure where else to look, but so far it just seems to be people wanting a free bird! That's NOT going to happen! This guy is way too sweet to just give to anyone. He has to have a mommy or daddy looking for him and I am going to do everything I can to find them! I'm hoping to borrow a more appropriate sized cage from the bird hut today if possible since he is in a cage I would consider too small for a parakeet. The only thing I have is Zilla's travel cage or a cat carrier!

Check out the pics of Zilla from the other day on my post from earlier yesterday titled "Zilla you're not a conure" She is a very silly spoiled girl and is not so happy there is a visitor in the back room I keep going in to talk to, and I took it food too??? Her food? What the heck am I thinking???

Lol Amanda, what are you thinking? You already have a conurezon, why on earth would you need a quaker and how dare you feed it and take care of it?

I'm so glad you're trying to find the quaker's family. It sounds like someone has worked with him and he's obviously had pressure training. Quakers are notorious for escaping their homes and the little boogers love to fly. Does he talk? That would be a good way to identify his true owners.

I'm happy for you and your mom. It sounds like you are super busy. I wish you both all the best with your new business.

LOL Allee...the conurezon is definitely jealous and doesn't like to share, but hopefully she will get over it sometime soon.

He hasn't said anything yet. Is pretty quiet, more quiet than I thought he would be. I'm going to try to get the numbers off his band as I figure any responsible bird owner would have the band numbers of their bird. At least that's my plan of action for now. It's still too early here to be calling places especially on a Sunday morning.

Lots of people seem to want him, but so far no one can prove he is theirs. I have one person insisting they lost one a year ago and it must be him, but I seriously doubt this bird has been gone for more than a few hours or days. He is too friendly and in too good of shape I think. And I'm not sure one could even survive that long outside alone, it gets pretty cold and rainy here for months on end, it's not like I'm in cali or florida!

This quaker is super comfortable with me! I have heard if a bird stretches in your presence it trusts you since they are super vulnerable while stretching. Not sure if this is true but he stretches his wings and legs while I have my hand in his cage and am talking to him.

He loves cucumbers and pasta, and of course sunflower seeds. Doesn't like carrots or blueberries, or dried peppers. He sticks his tongue on everything I offer him. Sometimes he takes it and eats it sometimes he throws it on the floor! But at least I know he is eating and getting some nutrition and moisture.

Why does he have to be so sweet? Why couldn't he be a brat and bite the crap out of me? He is making it very hard for me not to go buy a bigger cage and just keep him! I just keep telling myself someone has to be heartbroken he is gone, someone has to be looking for him, he has to have a mommy or daddy who is worried sick right now! I really want to find them! But in the event I don't find them I think he will be staying right here...

I would say place ads on craigslist, put info up on a local fb parrot group, and call any exotic vet within 50 mi.

Thanks, I am doing all of that. There are a lot of places not open on Sundays, and/or open later on Sundays (it's only just 9am here)

I will do everything I can to find his home.

The nerve people have. It makes me sad and angry. How disgusting that whenever I hear of this type of situation, people call up pretending to be the owner. It's disturbing how commonly people do this with animals... look through lost and found ads as a way to get a free new pet! On top of that, calling you after midnight about it? Rude, no common sense.

I wish you the best in reuniting this Quaker with their rightful owner. What a good bird. The owner must be beside themselves! Very sad. I hope to hear a happy ending soon!

ps.. I'm glad Miss Zilla is doing well :). Good luck with the new business too!

Its amazing what creepers come lurking when this happens. Sounds like you are doing all you can do to make this lil guy comfortable while you find his owner. Im glad you found him and not someone else, who may not put forth so much effort. I hope the owner is found, and if not then you may have a decision to make.

I'm doing everything I can because I know how I would feel if Miss Zilla went missing...I would be frantic and looking everywhere! I haven't found a single add looking for a green quaker in the last 6 months though. There is an add looking for a blue one about a month ago, but she was found safe and returned to her owner, and this one is definitely green.

It's amazing how many people have tried to get me to give him to them though. Some even admit it's not their bird but they want it really bad and would take wonderful care of it, but they just can't afford to go buy one. My response is always "If you can't afford to buy a bird and cage then you can't afford to take it to the vet and to feed it quality food, so no I won't be giving it to you"

As for decision making, I think the silly little feather butt has already moved in...LOL if I don't find his owners I will more than likely keep him, as long as he doesn't turn out to be a complete deranged screamer!

I never expected to get help in housing and taking care of the little booger, but the Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon has offered to get me an appropriate cage for him to live in as long as I am willing to keep him while we all look for his family! They offered me some credit for food and toys at the bird hut too!

Thats great news that the rescue is able to give you some assistance! Good luck in trying to find the owners! I know someone somewhere is missing the little cutie.

This is where I got my little Loki from....stand up people for sure. They really do love the birds!

Had him in and checked out today, he is perfectly fine. Didn't do blood work, but in the event I can't find his owner I will do that.

There is a guy that lost a 12 year old quaker 7/4/14 but his contact info is out of date and no one thinks this little one has been out there that long, though it is possible.

There was a report of a 7 year old female quaker going missing in March, but everyone seems to think this one is a male, and it went missing a good 40 miles from me, so it's doubtful but I will follow up on it.

There are no new adds anywhere and I have adds on at least 7 or 8 sites. I have also called over a dozen vets all over the Portland and surrounding areas.

Still no luck finding this little guys owner. No idea how someone couldn't be missing him or looking for him, but the only reasonable leads I had are people who have found their birds.

He has started whistling and talking to me and Zilla HATES him with a passion so far. She is screaming at "peal the paint off the walls" ear splitting pitch most of the day. I mean like every time she hears him or thinks I might be going anywhere near him. And Lord forbid I feed him, that is totally unacceptable behavior!

He on the other hand seems to be settling in nicely and looks forward to my visits, treats, and scritches. I've been calling him "Little ****" and should probably find something more appropriate in the event he ends up being her awhile.
