My new bird Rio I got yesterday came with a tub of seed type food. I know i shoud switch him to a pellet diet. Witch one though. This is my first ever bird and could use a little advice. Max 8 near Chicago.

That is such a personal choice....I use zupreme fruity pellets...it is what was recommended by my vet and the birds love it. They even pick out their favorite colors...
For my love bird, it took a little over two weeks to switch her...she came to me on an all seed diet and I did the usual ten day method but it took longer for her...one day she just decided to eat it and loves it now.
Also, you may want to slowly introduce some fresh fruits and veggies...stay away from avacado, that is poisonous to them and so is chocolate....
Good luck and let us know how it goes...it will take time so don't get discouraged ok.:D

Roudybush, Zupreem, and Harrison's tend to be the trusted brands on these forums.

Personally I like what Harrisons does for my birds. It comes in sizes, high potency and 100% organic. Needs to be stored in the frig.

I feed a mix of Harrisons and Roudybush. And as Spiritbird said, keep it refridgerated. I keep most of mine in the freezer, and keep a smaller container with about a weeks worth in the fridge at a time.

I personally would use harrisons as it is organic and not full of colourings. I have converted to birds to this and was quite easy. But I have just got a 22 wk old yellow crowned amazon Oscar, I and finding it quite stressful. I have got him to eat some fruit but he just plays with pellets. He is constantly begging for food and is loosing weight but my vet has told me to not worry until he gets to375g if there anyone that can advise me I would be very grateful thanks rainbow

I dont have my bird yet, so I cant really comment from experience. I did ask my breeder what he uses and he said Lafeber's. Nobody mentioned this brand in the forum. Has anyone ever used it or know anything about it?

There have been discussions of Lafeber's ... they could probably be found with a search.

I'm not very familiar with their food, but I am a fan of their treats and snacks - they seem to be good quality. I'd be surprised if their food was not equally so.

Sunmommy: I'm not really sure about Lafeber's as a sole food source but I feed my birds a couple nutriberries (by Lafeber's) every other day as a snack :)

MaxAndRio: I feed a roudybush and zupreem premium blend. Lucy (BCC) was on an all seed diet. she was stubborn for quite some time (about 3 months) but now she's on straight pellets. She now get safflower seeds as reward for training :) And I agree whole heartedly with Spiritbird. Fresh fruits and veggies can't be beat :) :green1:

I bought the pellets and the nutriberries by Lefebers. I will see how my baby likes it, when he gets here. By the way, he is down to one hand feeding a day and only one syringe full. I cant wait. Im really hoping to get him Thanksgiving week because I have 4 days off work in a row.

I know they are not talked about much but my yellow lored loves goldenfeast pellets golden nobles...i think the name is....they are organic as well.. however, they are temporaily out of stock.....supposedly they will begin making them again soon I hope so because that's his favorite pellets...my illigers and btm eat roudybush....all my other birds eat fruit zupreem....i hate having to buy so many different kind of pellets though lol

I started Rio on Zupreem yesterday. I was pretty much all she ate leaving most of the seeds. It made me smile, Thanks everyone.

I use harrison and it works for Ville

I have Maxx on Roudybush Crumbles. I can get them at my bird store in bulk for $3.49 a pound. I buy a couple pounds, kept some out and freeze the rest.
