Help! I did my first attempt with the dehydrator and it isn't pretty...... I need help! How do I make things taste and dehydrate like the pet and grocery stores?

What kind of foods did you try dehydrating? How big were the pieces, and are you using an actual dehydrator or a convection oven? Also did you add anything to the foods before the process? Lots of ?s I know, but all of them matter..lol

to dehydrate stuff like that in most dehydrators made for home use, they pieces need to be very thinly cut. If its too thick it will never dry out.

Any other advice really depends on the kind of dehydrator, what you are trying to do etc.

The dehydrator is a Cabela's brand model deluxe 10 tray dehydrator. 800 watts. Door on it. We cut to the recommended sizes...or best we could. Banana, orange, potatoe, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi, tomato, green beans, raspberries, apple and pear. We ran it for 12 hours. I blanched the broccoli, cauliflower and green beans. I know there's tricks to having things come out right and more edilble for the fids.....

Once we get a handle on how to use the dehydrator.....I have many bird lovers that want the fruit and veggies for the fids. Here in Michigan, the summer is short and we need to preserve as much as we can. I am paying a premium for fresh and dehydrated. If I can get this to work I'll be buying from the farmer's in bulk and having goodies for the fids all winter. They would eat better :) And I know that I can help others also.... I also picked up an air popcorn popper today to add to the good junk food list. We are all going to be healthier.....eventually.....
