Food Bill

about £20 per month, possibly more, pellets, treats fresh fruit and veg, i've not included toys and perches etc

mines £20 a week, with all the other animals too!

i might have to reduce what i offer the nut, who has just bit my finger?? not hard just enough to hang on grrrr think i need to get of forum an get the u tubebird vids up

I spend about $60 on food when I got Bob and have not run out, the pellets are about half gone. Then it is about $2 a week on veggies, though at present that tends to get thrown out.

A $15 bag of Zupreem last me for months...aside from that, considering we have 2 little boys, it is tough to say what we spend for fruit & veg, since he eats what we eat.

I never buy "Bird Specific" food (aside from his pellets), I actually thing we threw away more fruit and veg before we had him. Between the bird, a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old boy. Fruit and Veg doesn't stand a chance around here for very long!!!

I spend approx $50.00 to $65.00 per month for both my boys

It's insane what some of you are paying! I can feed 7 birds for $110 a year. I simply order bulk online and have been keeping it in storage units. Before that I was spending ridiculous amounts.

Pellets are about 30 bucks every 2 months and then whatever fruits and veggies we have here they get. They eat what we eat. In the winter months they get more frozen then fresh, but then again so do we.

Have you thought about buying pellet in bulk? Your spending 180 on pellet, but a 35 pound bag online is only $75.00 and the ground shipping is only $5.00.

Thats a great idea, but I buy many different kinds of pellets, not just one brand. That way they don't get to used to one.

I know what you mean, I always switch up the seed on a regular basis and now they are having to get used to just one. I'm thinking about maybe buying another bag, just because they are so used to having variety.

I am probably on average spending 30 dollars a week buying fruits and vegetables. Although I am spoiling Holly terribly.

Yesterday I offered half a boiled egg, A quarter of an apple, peach, cucumber, six fresh green beans and about a quarter of fresh boiled corn on cob. Plus a good chunk of watermelon, and a quarter of a very ripe banana. She ate the majority of it in addition to seed and Roudybush pellet mixed together with dried fruits. She eats more of the fruits and vegetables than she does of seed.

Today I've planned cooked sweet potato and yellow squash to see if she likes either of those. I made a special trip just to buy parrot vegetables and fruits since not all of this my family eats. I have half a shelf in the refrigerator just for Holly's goodies. Now if I can only keep my daughter out of the peaches or leave me 2 would be helpful.

Same here. Most of the stuff except for sprouts and a few other things, Mac and Tiki eat my main stays. But I would have to estimate that I spend additional due to having them about $20.00-$25.00 a week. This doesn't include any pellets. That would be additional.

If you are buying in bulk, watch for experation dates and most pellets need to be stored in the refrig not on some shelf to keep them fresh. They really need to be stored in an air tight or vacume seal bags in the refrig.
I have heard horror stories when it came to shelf stored pellets that some how or another received mold and with the owner not noticing it, they gave them to their birds and after many vet bills, it was really not worth buying in bulk so buyer beware.
They is really no way to buy in bulk when it comes to Veggies and Fruit so the price will always remain high. Best of luck Joe

WOW...$20-$25 per week? I don't think Nic Nic could eat nearly half that and he eats A LOT of fruit and veg. I have to say though, as far as birds I have know, he wastes VERY little.

I would estimate that he drops less than 10% of his food, most of that being skins and such (he peels nearly every piece of fruit & veg he eats.)

Around here, $20 buys you an awful lot of veggies.:white1:

2 YNA's, 2 GW's & a Hahn's..............I don't even want to know, especially the GW's, them things can EAT!!!

I'd say I spend maybe $15 every few months for a bag of Zupreem pellets for my conures. Their treats and stuff cost maybe another $20. So, maybe $35-40 bucks for pellets and treats every 3-4 months. The budgies are really inexpensive to feed. A $10 bag of seed will last me a very long time. As far as veggies and fruits go they eat whatever is on sale and in the house that I like. I only wish feeding my cats was this cheap... stupid expensive food.

I have that problem with the peaches that are in season here. I can't help but eat them and if my family wants any they had best be quick about getting them! Mmmmmm Kayak and I share them all the time. Now I'm sad. I just realized we're all out of them. I guess I should make a trip to my favorite farmer's market today.

This is why I love the spring and summer seasons. All the different fresh fruits and veggies that we have in the area are great! The birds and I get to eat amazing stuff that's fresh. I hate the late fall and winter  everything is out of season and really expensive in the grocery store. (anybody in NJ knows that a Jersey tomato is the best and there is no settling for anything else.)

Hmmm well I spend about $80 for 4 months and includes her pine nuts, but I just buy a parrot mix and dehydrated veggies form Bird Paradise. She wont eat fruits or veggies or any human food. So my bird's pretty simple.
