fondling chickens and ducks with gcc

so I went by the local TSC (tractor supply company) in my town and they have fondling chickens and ducks, it's still kind of cold here so I'm not taking clark out yet, but do you think there would be any risk of infection from showing him the chickens and ducks? They weren't out in the wild, probably bred in captivity...but I worry about him even getting close to a farm type animal, even though he and I know I would enjoy it.

I have no idea of the risk....

I wouldn't do it. TSC chicks are hatchery sourced so exposed to a fair amount. But shrug I dunno. I had a pet house duck for a while and he never got any of my parrots sick. He came from the local agricultural faire, so I don't know if he was hatchery sourced though.

I wouldn't do it either! Just too many unknown risk possibilities...
If you quarantined a fowl, MAYYYYYBE, with an avian vet's supervision.

They are cute, though aren't they?

Now that I think of it, I played with my grandparents Bantam chickens when I was a kid, and contracted histoplasmosis!

North America's mid-territory (Mississippi River Valley) Migration path is open and active as is the South half of the California Flyway. It is my 'understanding' that the East Coast Migration path is stalled South of the Virginia's.

My reasoning for bring that up is that the most serious concern with Farm Birds is possible exposure to Migrating ducks and geese in the Spring and Fall. The exposure inside of a TSC would be limited. Since you would not be allowing your Parrot any more than limited sight of the chicks and ducklings, hence any transfer would be limited.

I wouldn’t risk it either. I have both chickens and turkeys at home, and I’m careful to wash up when I come inside before touching anything that the parrots may come into contact with. I know my outside birds are healthy and have had all of them for more than 2 years - but am uncomfortable with the parrots coming into contact with germs that their bodies might not be able to handle. Unknown birds would be too scary for me to contemplate having around my fids

Our outdoor birds don't get to mix with indoor either. There are risks like salmonella that don't have many signs or symptoms. When you purchase any chickens, ducks etc. and you have animals at home you are supposed to go through not only the 30 day quarantine but also what they call the sacrificial bird. You put one of your birds in with the new birds and see if they catch anything.
Our parrots do occasionally get to see the outdoor birds but never too close or in contact with droppings.
