He guys

So echo who is almost 1 year and few months old just started to fly. I was trying to teach him re-call training and ever since then hes been acting super weird. He would come out of his cage scream, screech and then fly around my room.Only after a few time around my room, he would start gasping, and his feet and beak would turn hot, but he still will go around my room. I've already taken him to the vet and he said echo is perfectly healthy but i never knew birds would start gasping after flying not even few seconds. I put it down to the fact that hes not used to flying and its taking too much out of him and eventually he will stop the gasping and such. What do you guys think? Is this normal ?

It is normal! It's just gonna take him time to get adjusted to flying, it's like people, if your out of shape, just some running for a min would make you out of breath. Give him time! Don't over do it though, little bit at a time.

Are you sure? LOL, Sorry I'am a bite paranoid, after all he is my baby <3 ( lol even the vet said im paranoid which was hilarious ) . It's like hes gasping and hes really hot feet and beak but he just keeps at it. SHould i put him in his cage cause i think hes overdoing it or should i just let him keep doing it untill he decides to stop?

Put him back in unless he would just stop on his own. He just needs time.

By the way I am quite sure cause I've flight trained many birds, not just a few, hundreds.

Ok, thank you very much ! :green:

I think if you considered how much they flew in the wild, it wouldn't be so scary to see him wiz around the room the way he does! There's a possibility he's burning off excess energy. My parrot Avery will do the same thing - she'll come out and just fly around the room super, super fast and land and be exhausted. It's kind of like when we decided to try really hard at a 100 meter dash... we tire ourselves really quick because we're going full blast and work up a sweat despite it being such a short run!

I think that as long as he's not endangering himself by flying into walls, windows, or mirrors that it's a great way for him to build important muscle and get some awesome exercise. Just monitor him and make sure he's drinking water after his flight sessions and keep a tab on his heart (you can generally feel how fast it's going just by cupping your hand around their back) to make sure it slows sufficiently after your sessions if you're super worried. :)

Gotcha ! Thank you. Echo is definitely a very hyper bird ! Its impossible for him to sit unless hes so sleepy or very tired. Silly bird :D

I noticed my baby doing a similar thing with his breathing and everyone assured me he was find (including Michael LOL)

Ok good :) It just gets really scary, especially if its problems with their breathing :P

If you hadn't said about no flying before and such then I would be worried about the gasping. But it's understandable that you would be worried about that. I would be worried too to see that if I hadn't owned birds for years to know..... :)

.. but there are times where hes playing or holding onto something i can hear him breathing from his noise. His posture is also off sometimes and he regurgitates frequently. He also does this weird bobbing head motion and sometimes while he does it i can hear him through his noise. However as i said before the doc did a physical exam and he said it was common in Alex's .. I'm not to sure if i believe him or not.. .

Is it an Avian Vet? If so you should be fine, if not I would not trust a "regular" vet with a bird (too many bad stories)

Yes i believe it was an avian vet seeing the vet clinic is called " Animal & Bird Hospital"

I would make sure the doctor that told you the bird is ok is an Avian Vet
(you could Google his name maybe)

We have found on the forum that lots of times an owner just knows when something is wrong with their bird, you sound worried
"I'm not to sure if i believe him or not"
You might want to make sure, never doubt your feelings

from the various sites that i just visited, it listed the vet as an avian vet reference so i believe he is an avian vet. As for what i believe, it may be that im overly attached to echo and that's why im freaking out over every little thing. I asked him for a blood test and hes like you can have it but i really don't think he need it . Also i literally have no funds to take him to a vet again ...I will probably call the vet again in the morning and just confirm that during the exam he didn't think echo was sick at all and that all his symptoms are normal.

So i talked to the doctor and he assured me echo was perfectly healthy. So i guess im just gonna relax now ! Thank you for that answered me and gave me advice. It really helped !

One thing you can check is to make sure there's no obstruction within the nostrils as that will cause weird breathing noises. If there's any obstructions, you need to clean them out.

the vet already check. I also regularly check. The only thing i can see is the wall of his nose ?I'm not sure what its called..

Operulum! I believe that's what your talking about! Cornified flap of tissue that acts as a filter.
