Flying back to cage after taking out?

Hi everyone, I got an Alexandrine parakeet approx. a week ago and it is actually doing well, it is quite used to my hands during petting, feeding, etc and doesn't seem to be scared unlike his first few days.
However, stepping up is a problem. I tried doing the portable stick method and he steps up on the stick perfectly, it's only my hand that he has trouble with and always try to fly back to his cage after a minute or two on my hand.
I noticed that his front toes on his left foot are crossing one another when he steps up and frequently lifts that feet up when on my hand + his grip on that foot is not as strong as his right foot's.

How do I get him to stay on my hand without flying away? Should I be worried about his left foot?
And I also noticed he always want to go back to his cage whenever I bring him out of his cage be it to the living room or just a few meters away from his cage, how can I stop this behavior? TIA

To make him stay on your hands, I would give him a treat and when he's done and looks like he's going to fly back to his cage, I would offer him another treat.

You just have to find his favorite treat.

Good luck.
