Is fleece fabric safe? I bought fleece for a cage cover but Chico my B&G rescue gets scared when I put it on his cage. Now it hangs off the couch and he just plays in it for hours hiding and biting at it.

I'm concerned with wether or not I made a poor choice. I chose fleece because of how many toys are made out of them but am aware of the danger of some fabrics.

I use fleece and I've never had a problem with it. Personally I think fleece is safer than a lot of the cloth used in snuggle huts.

Be sure that your fleece is not treated with fire retardant, you can usually find a warning on the bolt of cloth stating that the fleece is untreated.

Ok. I noticed he had some fibers on his beak and freaked out. I didn't rescue him to kill him. :(

I always wash my fleece and run the rinse cycle about three times to wash away any loose fibers. If you have an avid chewer, you may want to supervise when they play with the fleece toys.

Fleece does not shed too much in the way of fibers which is why I used it as a cage liner when I had rats. It's probably the safest fabric you can use.

It might not be the cloth but just the covering up . My B & G is a rescue and he freaked out the one time I tried to cover him so I don't even try. I had bought a king size sheet to put over his cage. I hung it over a chair close to the cage for him to get use to. He would grab it and rub his face in it so I know the cloth did not scare him.
Any cloth he gets close to he loves to rub his face in it just don't put it over him lol.

He actually likes having the front of his cage covered when I use an old, thin white bed sheet but total darkness while in the cage causes bro lets (he was put in a closet for two years).

When he is out of the cage he is content on the ground, burying himself in the black fleece. He is a goody bird.
