Pineapple green cheek conure
This will be the first time for me taking my bird Pineapple (who is a conure) to the vet. I'm afraid she won't like me afterwords because she's going for the full on Check-up, beak trim, nail trim, and Wings clipped. (wings are being clipped due to her accidentally gotten out of the house and in the neighbors tree across the road. Took me three hours to get her down and back to me but I got her back!) Do any of you have problems with your birds not liking you much after them going? I don't want her to be angry at me for her being taken.

Thanks ahead of time

I don't think you'll have any problems. I went to vet several time with both tiels and CAG, everything went ok and they didn't change their attitude towards me.
For my CAG I took her favorite nuts and gave her during the vet check, so she'll have a positive associations with the vet.
So don't be afraid, it'll go fine.

I'm in MI also :) lots of good vets in the state. She will be fine, just spoil her afterward. Bring her favorite treats, and it's better if someone else does these things and not you, she'll blame the vet. :) good luck. I let mine ride my shoulder on the way home so she would feel secure and a little in control again. :)

Can I ask why the beak trim?

Can I ask why the beak trim?

Her beak doesn't look right when it closes and I think it might be over grown. But that's why i'm going to the vet to look at her and see what the vet would advise or see what I can do. My mom is going along with me. When she closes her beak from the side there is a small gap.

Just tell the vet your observation and go from there. Make sure they are avian vets so they know their birds. Just give them plenty of love afterwards, they would be fine! My bird actually never gotten mad at me after coming back from the vet. IF I did it myself, they'll be mad at me for a few days or so...

I made sure it was an Avian vet :)

Just last week, my Fiji did not have a good day at the vet. All in one appointment he got a wing clip, nail trim, DNA test taken from a nail cut a little too short, AND his nasal passages got flushed (sometimes he acts like one side is clogged, although the vet can never find anything). ANYWAY, the minute the vet brought him back to me, he jumped up on my shoulder and cuddled under my chin. He never held anything against me, since I wasnt the one doing all those things to him. He was a little quiet, but an hour later he was home and eating treats and back to normal.

Good luck with Pineapple, I hope her beak is ok!

Not all birds beak close all the way when their beaks are at rest... so that's normal. If it is overgrown though, the a-vet can certainly trim it!

Clipping a birds wings is *no* guarantee that a bird wont be able to take off and get lost outside... *please* be aware of this! Even clipped birds should be in a cage, carrier or harness when outside!

I use a dremel on my mitred conures beak and he's usually nicer to me afterwards! Always figured he'd be pissed off at me, but he's less bratty afterwards... lol

I agree with Monica, some beaks do have a slight gap at rest. The most important is to have the top in line with the bottom....

Mine was fine when I took him to the vet.. I didn't know so much about birds, but he was playing with the tools the vet was using at him. No screaming, they put him in a towel and flipped him upside down and he just hung out.. Good luck with your visit!!
