CAG - Bobby 07-14
So, even though my CAG and I haven't met yet, I want to try and figure out food solutions and have things ready for him when he gets here.

I know that I'm not supposed to feed him: avacado, chocolate, salt, raw beans, (too many) seeds, diary, and there are some other things I'm sure, but I can't remember right now at work.

What I want to know is what can I feed him that I can make myself without going into massive debt at the pet store on the special pellets and things? I assume that nuts are okay, peanuts are not nuts so I'm not including them here, but are there some varieties are are NOT okay?

I've seen 'birdie bread' around and I have no idea what that means, could someone explain what that is and how do I make it?

I love to cook and make all kinds of food my my wife and I and we look forward to cooking for our new companion.

Pellets you can't sneak around, buy the best pellets you can(in the USA Harrison's and Totally Organics are excellent). Pellets fill in any nutritional gaps, and make a big difference in your birds overall health. They aren't too expensive though, especially if you only have 1 or 2 birds. I spend about $36 on Kenji's harrison's pellets every month and a half, that's very little considering the time between each purchase. When Rosie was only eating Totally Organics I was only spending $15($19 with shipping) on a 4 pound bag, TOPS is super affordable.

I also don't have a lot of money to spend on food, especially with Christmas shopping right now. But I use my money smart and make sure the fids have good food other than pellets daily. even before when I was only working with pet sitting and a photo commission here and there XD It's important to make sure the fids have what they need

First off I make a chop mix, these are awesome! I usually spent around $45-$60. That price is amazing considering how long the chopmix last! I make a ton, then freeze it giving me 2-3 months of convenient food that my birds love. The image below isn't the best example, I wasn't all that happy with that mix and wish I had added more peppers and other veggies(not leafy greens. had enough of those in the mix lol)

I also buy pre-packaged mixes designed for parrots that you cook yourself, then also freeze that for future use. This below image shows freshly cooked broccoli, with Volkman's feather glow soak and simmer(middle, as well as chopmix(bottom). Volkman isn't my, or my birdies favorite. Better soak/simmer's are available online through mysafebirdstore.com
You can also leave the soak and simmer's dry, and cook the amount that's needed.

I always add a spoonful of chopmix to fresh food as well

I didn't mean for it to sound like I was trying avoid buying the pellets all together, I just meant I was looking for ways to stretch the bag even longer.
