I have been interested in birds for as long as I could remember, however, ended up getting them sooner than I had planned.

I went to visit my parents back home (I live about 2 hours away at college) and my Dad told me he had a surprise. Long and behold, he brought out 2 beautiful sun conures! My first reaction was amazing, but now I am feeling the effects of being ill prepared. We are not typically the type to buy animals last minute, but my Dad's friend called him asking if he would buy these birds that he had. After the bird bit his son, he wanted to get rid of them immediately.

One of the birds is sweet and will stand on top of the cage, walk around and eagerly jump on your shoulder. The other bird, however, is very very mean. He will try to bite you when you go to open the cage and draws blood every time. It is difficult to change the food/water or simply try to get the other bird. He is not afraid to come to you and attack.

However, I am not giving up on him. As of right now they are in a cage that measures 23" x 14", which I feel is much too small. I have been looking at a cage from Amazon that is 31" by 20.5" by 50" just because I want to make sure they have plenty of space. Any thoughts on cage sizes?
I wanted to know your advice on how to get closer to these birds and be able to change the food/water without getting bit. Also, how is the space you have when you let them out? Should I buy some of those branches that just stand in the room or would those not be best for them?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!
I will post pictures soon!

Thank you so much!

Conures get cage aggression, My male conure loves his cage when i 1st got him he would lunge and bite anyone who dare enter his cage.

IDK if this matters but when i got my conure he was not nice when he came out of the cage, at the avian shop he was in a cage with 2 other suns, what was explained to me is that suns tend to be protective so he was acting off because he was protecting those 2 suns when they tried to get him out. It makes sense. Now after he was away from that cage he became a nicer bird.

When i brought him home he was nice for 1 day and 1 day only than he turned to a little meany. Biting lunging anyone that got in his cage. I had to work with him he was all by himself though I used a wooden chopstick to pick him up , I left his cage door open and let him get to his play area, I talked alot to him all day long I tried not to touch him until he got comfortable than I started getting him out with a stick and placing him on a coffee table perch, playing music while i cleaned dancing around like a goof ball he liekd that. After awhile (months) he became my friend Now the little boy loves me. Suns take some time they are nippy birds even after they love you if they dont want to be pet they give u a queue if u ignore the queue they will nip..

I am not exact sure on the cage, I have a small parrot cage with play area on top I would say its 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 foot by 6ft tall. Its pretty big way bigger then he needs but he likes to distroy toys so he needs lots of toys.

I purchased both my cages used one had a macaw in it and the cage didnt fit in her SUV and her moving truck was gone she sold it to me 100 I saw the same cage at the bird fair for 500 bux my conures cage someone was replacing it because it was white and their other 2 birds had black cages so it didnt match i got that one for 75 its a small parrot cage probablly 2 1/2 ft by 2 1/2 ft by 6ft tall with a play area on top. You just gotta disinfect and wash every nook and cranny very very well

I would find a treat your parrot likes banana chip, pine nuts, almond something he really really likes offer it to him. cages that have small doors that you can get to the food dish from outside the cage are good option to until he warms up to you.
