thats a big list to fill! You cannot be sure to fill it all with any breed. All of the above breeds may or may not have any of the traits you desire as it often depends on the individual bird. To get you closest to what you're looking for, I would buy a cocketil. They are great birds. Not sure how old your kids are but that may be the most important factor in selecting one.

i dont have kids..but my youngest sister is 8

Even in the species known for talking there's no 100% chance they'll talk. A male budgie that's been hand feed/reared would fit as well.

I think you need more than a few days to think this over and research other breeds. But that is just my opinion.

Welcome to the forums. :)

May I ask why you specified 'male' Indian Ringneck? Females can make just as good as pets as their male counterparts.

Never heard of an Orange Fronted Amazon. Did you mean Orange-Winged Amazon, or Blue-Fronted Amazon? (Orange-Winged are definitely calmer between the two)

As for your requirement that the bird must learn to 'talk really good', sorry, there is NEVER a guarantee for that with any parrot.

Because the ad that I'm looking at says Male Indian Ringneck :)

and yes I meant the Orange-Winged Amazon :)

The other important thing to look at is the level of care involved with each species of bird. An african grey can require a LOT of attention and time, as well as the potential of bonding just with you and not allowing anyone else to be involved. My suggestion is to start small, I'd say of the three, the ringneck would be the better choice, but there's no "starter bird" and if you can meet all three and see who you "click" with first will give you a better idea of which one you'll be successful with.

Just thought I'd suggest you look into the cost of cages, food, toys, play stands and vet care for each of the species you're interested in.

Extremely good point and can be very surprising how much the costs of ownership can be.

I wouldn't recommend an amazon or a grey as a first bird for anyone, not that it hasn't been done... I think a handfed ringneck could make a lovely pet and is a good size for people of most ages to handle, if you are just looking at ads on craigslist and such, I'd be very careful and spend time with the bird in and out of the cage before making a decision. See how they get the bird out of the cage, how it acts with the owner, if there are others in the family, how does the bird act with them (if it is an older bird bonded to just one person, it won't be the quick loving pet you may be looking for)
