We're going on a trip for 4 days. Usually we leave them at home with my uncle, who changes water, food, veggies, etc., and gives them out time. He really enjoys hanging out with them, so it's always worked out. But he won't be able to stay with them on this trip this time, so we had to board them. We already brought Oliver and his cage, food, toys, and such to the boarding center, and we're taking Bella and Zora later today, for sake of needing a bigger car for their bigger cage. (You don't need to bring a cage, I just thought they'd feel less freaked with it.) :( It's only been an hour, and I already miss Oliver! :( How am I going to last 4 days?!

I know, I'm going to be checking in every afternoon. Probably going to drive them nuts.

I hate leaving my critters at all!
Now that we have a farm, we have to do onsite care, but back in the day I boarded. It was tough!

Maybe you can call the place and talk to your birdies. I used to set up an answering machine with speakerphone so I could talk to mine while I was gone. Not sure what they made of it, but it made me feel better.

Ahh, it's depressing! Good news though is that Oliver is chattering away with his BFA neighbor. They've been spilling out their whole vocabulary. :p

Gah, just dropped off the girlies. Wish me luck trying to survive 4 days without them!

GOOD LUCK! I have to go on a 7 day vacation in April and i'm dreading it! It was planned before I even knew I was getting a bird, deposits paid, etc. Now, all I want to do is stay home with my baby! I would take him with us, but since we're going to a foreign country, that probably isnt a good idea! My 20 yr old son is going to move home for that week and babysit. I hope I can survive the stress of worrying while i'm gone :52:

When we went on vacation before, we have trusted people to stay over to watch them while we're away. But we haven't taken a vacation for over 7 years as I worry every second being away from them.

This is very emotional for the owner and the bird. I can't even last 3 HOURS without checking up on P&S . When we come home from somewhere the whole day I immediatly run to the cage and do a complete check up. Before I leave I always make sure that thier perch heater is plugged in. Ok, I know this might sound like I don't care about your birds, but don't try to think about them, just enjoy your vacation. Though I know my words will be wasted on that since everybody worrys about thier fids. Are you leaving your fids at a avian vets ?

What kind of boarding facility are you using? Do they have a seperate room for your birds for quarantine issues? I won't board my birds unless they have a seperate room for them.

There are some days like yesterday where they were both quite vocal and moody that I would welcome the vacation away hahahahahahaha. I say that, but then I would be a mess after an hour:) There is a boarding facility about 30 miles from me that I will most likely use the next time we have to go away. They don't supply cages, which is a good thing, I prefer ours so that I know how well it was cleaned. Unfortunately Mac's cage is too big to fit through the door, so it will have to be taken apart and put back together at the boarders.

Good luck...and TRY and have some fun. :)

I haven't had a vacation in almost 10 years now. I went to Germany (on my own), so all the animals were well taken care of. ;)

And when we went to Georgia for 3 days (2 nights) just before Christmas, I had my son's GF stay here with them all. That worked out perfectly, even though I missed them all terribly. But she updated me at least twice a day, WITH pictures, too. :D

Between Miri and the Zon's, I really don't think anyone else could handle them besides us. We knew after getting all of them that going somewhere wasn't really possible anymore. The last time we went anywhere was to the coast to pic up Miri and Halo from the breeder, it's a 4 hour drive one way from here, so we left the others home and just drove down and back the same day. I don't doubt for a second that Miri would put some serious hurt on a stranger if they stuck a body part in her cage.

By the way Nutso Crazy Girl, where y'all headed? :D

Great, finally have some wi-fi! ;)

It's an avian boarding facility, and they keep medicated birds in a separate room than healthy birds checked with an avian vet within the last year. The staff has 2 vet techs who are GREAT, one of them has over 35 years working as a vet tech. Like them a lot! :) Still worrying though.

And, WharfRat, I'm heading to LA.

Louisiana?!?!?!

You'll probably be passing right thru Austin if y'all are taking I-10!!!

(We live North of Austin)

I just called for the first update, they're all doing great, they like the music they leave on when no one is in the room, and they have already demolished half the toys we left for them. Eating great too. :D

Hahaha, birds really do love music ! My mom likes listening to her traditional Indian songs and you should see Pepsi and sprite ! They are bouncing and chirping to the beat. Maybe they should be belly dancers lol I'm always relaxed if a vet is taking care of them, like just in case they get sick, the unspeakable happens. They know how to handle it.

They're still doing okay... and seem to be enjoying jazz music. ;)

Good to hear everybirdy is doing well.

I should try some different music for Lucky. Indian music is cool, but I don't know about jazz ;)
