Well, these "pets" are feathered, but wasn't sure where else to post it.

We found our first eggs today! We got the chicks in June.

I'm sure most are at least loosely familiar with chickens, but they are pretty low maintenance, are very happy living outside year round (selecting the right breed for your climate), and are pretty amusing!

Congrats - the first eggs are always the best! I love my chickens and my turkeys too....they are my outside feathered pets :)

So cool! My first round was with a flock of Banty hens. Built a topless pen, and watched them fly off when released!

Neat, was that your goal?

I'm guessing they are free roaming party chicks or are they home girls?

Yes. We have eleven hens. They are both pets, and a food source (their eggs, not them!)

They are in a 650 cubic foot aviary/run. I'm actually only on a half acre, so I don't want them getting into the neighbor's garden or wandering towards the road.

I would love turkeys, but I think they are probably too loud for my lot.

I have 1 white cochin, 2 silver laced wyandottes, 2 barred rocks, and 6 buff brahma bantams.

Oh, how cool! I know nothing about keeping chickens but I imagine finding the first eggs is very exciting for you guys!! Love the pics.
