Hello everyone šŸ˜Š

I realized last night that I should have a first-aid box for my cockatiel Kiko at home, just incase an emergency came up. He cut his foot last night and Al though he is doing fine and it was very minor, Iā€™m afraid of what will happen if it was a deep cut and I couldnā€™t take him to the vet at the time.

What are some essentials to have in a first aid box for birds? Are there any creams or ointments that you can purchase online or from stores? Do birds need gauze or any kind of bandage material?

In general, what are some things to always have in hand for emergencies?

Thanks to anyone who replies šŸ¦¢ šŸ’•

Applying bandages to any living thing always must be done so circulation is not cut off, very hard to gauge with birds. Corn starch is useful for stopping bleeding - dont use a styptic pen or others, they can chemically burn sensitive avian skin. A pair of hemostat clamps to yank out any blood feathers that are broken (and bleeding). If your vet will give you some, Metacalm or similar pain reliever. A heavy towel to use in holding the bird while treating.
