- GCC - Shooter
Pinapple GCC - Gunner
Plus 3 cats and a German Shepherd
I got my first GCC ever yesterday. I had a canary before, and my hubby used to work with parrots, but a conure is a first. His name is Shooter.
I brought him home in a cat carrier, which he didn't mind, and brought him upstairs to where we had his cage temporarily. We kept the room quiet and had a radio on quietly for the first few hours so he could get used to the sounds and smells of our house. We brought him out repeatedly, as he's VERY hand friendly, which I'm told is surprising for 6 weeks old, and let him meet our dog. They got along well.
In the evening we brought the cage downstairs and hung him from the ceiling so our cats could get used to him. They were very interested in him to say the least lol. He didn't care and soon fell asleep. My hubby slept downstairs just in case something happened, but after we moved our furniture around so they couldn't get near the cage, I wasn't too worried.
Today, he was bright and chipper, and was very willing to come out and say hi. We let him meet each of the cats, holding the cats and letting him keep his wings free just in case. They got to sniff him and than lost interst. They've barely looked at him since. They will all be closely monitored for a looong time however.
He seems very happy and content and loves to be held. He goes back into his cage without too much of a fight, and has discovered that my hair is a great place to hang out lol. He's just a happy little bird and I'm so happy we got him
I have to ask though: if we get another conure from the same breeder, is there a good chance that it will be as good as Shooter, or is he just a coincidence? Thanks
