Well today we had a horrible experience trying to find a sun conure. My brother 14, has been looking for a sun conure for some time now. He like me would like to adopt an adult, he loves the idea of giving an old bird a loving home that's in need. So today we were answering an ad on Craigslist... first red flag. The ad said 2 yr old sun conure for sale, can talk and loves people and other pets. Reason for re homing was he was too loud for her apartment. It sounded like a good fit fairly young and we'll socialized. When we asked for pictures she said her camera didn't work but we could come by and check him out. She lived about 45 minutes away so no big deal. When we arrived my poor brother was so excited he wouldn't shut up about how he was going to train him and he was going to so fun finally after saving up all that money and buying his cage and setting everything up lol. When the lady opened her door the the smell of cat pee and cigarette just about knocked us out. She wouldn't let us come in and asked us to wait outside and she would bring him out. Second red flag. When she brought him out it wasn't a sun but a gcc. This poor green cheek was yellow from the smoke and smelled aweful. I wanted to run away with him. My brother of coarse said no thanks and we left. I of coarse called animal control, they said they'd check it out. But man I feel horrible for that poor guy living in that condition. I really wish I would have purchased him from her and gave her a scolding for letting him live in those conditions but it would have been a moot point I don't know this ladies story why she lives the way she does. One thing is for sure that poor guy needs to get out soon. If the ad is still up by Saturday I'm going back for him.

Aww..I'm sorry for you bad experience. I would have bought the GCC to get it out of there..lol. Kind of what happened with my Sassy. Although at first the guy said "if he could find his camera...", he did end up sending me more pics and when I saw the pics I told hubby "oh I have to get that bird out of there"...(hubby said "I know you do"...he knows me well:p) Sassy looked really good, but her surroundings did NOT. I think he was a hoarder. I am so glad it all came together though! It was a rather scary craigslist experience but turned out fine.

I hope your brother does find the sun he is looking for! And I kind of hope the lady still has the green cheek on Saturday...;). Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Oh yes, there are many crazy jerks as well as really nice bird owners on CL. I rescued my cockatiel that way - when I saw the picture of 5 tiels crammed in a small dirty cage I called that guy right away. They were kept outside in the mobile house community, and the youngest one I bought was never handled, never let out of cage and was parent raised. He was almost 2 years old, and he didn't even have a name! :( The guy took him out of cage with a thick towel! They poor bird was horrified of a spray millet when I offered it to him at home! He flew into the walls and made himself bleed so I had to clip him… And now 2,5 mo later, he is cage free lap puppy who loves heads scratches and goes to hikes with me! He is learning to step up now, and he loves millet and broccolini. :)
So I'd definitely go and save that poor birdy (but talk down the price!).

Aww.. I really hope you can save that little creature! ... keep us posted, sounds like he would have such a wonderful home with you...

i hope you will save him,it is really horrible how many people treat animals that way,2 off mine were in bad situations too.
but yellow from the smoke?i didn't even knew that was possible, probably never given a bath too then.

As much as I'd love to save him it wouldn't be fair to kiwi sherlock echo or sunny. I'm at max capacity. I'm trying to find someone looking for a gcc and hopefully make that connection. On a happier note my brother got a parrot, he went down a weird path IMO.... love bird lol. He's a bundle of energy and has my family wrapped around his finger it's incredibly adorable. I'll post pictures when when I get a chance.
