After far too long in a feather-free home, my husband and I picked up our new birds on Monday. Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty are Maximillian's Pionus Parrots, and cute as can be! They are EXACTLY what I was looking for in a breeding pair! They are quiet and not fearful while in their cage. Soon I hope to be able to minimally target train them so that I can let them out of their cage. I don't want them "tame" per-say, but I would like them to have out of the cage time when not on a nest 
They live in the office for now while they get used to humans being so close, then I hope to move them to the living room. The breeder is retiring and has taken me under her wing, even plans to visit me in Hawaii when we get there and help me get set up.
She also gave me the gift of my first Green Cheek Conure. His/her name is FLC, pronounced Flick. A FLC is a Fighting Load Carrier, a piece of gear that my husband uses on an almost daily basis as a soldier. Flick is 14 weeks old and is sitting on my should investigating my long hair. He is also very interested in the computer, the couch, and everything else including the dog who is in his crate next to me.
The dog seems not all that shaken by the arrival of the feathered ones, but he will still have to be separated when the birds are out.
Anyway, I am so excited! I missed life with birds so much! Even the quiet sounds these birds have made so far are so soothing, the familiar crunch of food and soft ringing of beaks and toes on cage bars - all the sounds of life! Of course I don't expect it to stay quiet for long! I may be high on birdies at the moment...:jumping40
