FIRST OF ALL , i wanted to say how sorry i am for annoying all of you with so many questions , but i really wanted to make sure i was getting the right parrot !

And please read everything , at the end im asking for you guys to share experiences and etc...


and in the end , i really thought id go for the poicephalus or galah , but they are really expensive , and i actually couldnt find pois breeders , (only the senegal but ive never felt attracted to them )
so today , i was thinking id go for the eclectus , since they seem so amazing , and i mean , they are everything i want in a bird
BUT , there is always a BUT , they arent what i mainly look for in a bird , which is a bird that enjoys scratches once in a while , or likes being handled etc...

I DO KNOW , that parrots arent cuddly animals , and every parrot ends up having a different personality , but everything i heard says ekkies just arent cuddly birds ... ( but they might still have a chance since im only getting a parrot in 3 months )

but today , i think i just decided that a mini macaw it will be ! the noble macaw is the cheapest parrot out here (600 reais , i dont know haw many dollars that is )
they arent loud birds , (thats what i heard) BUT again the stupid but , they are smaller then what i wanted ...

but i think its really going to be a mini macaw ...
which species do you guys have , how are they ? etc ...

and no this is not a question , im just sharing with you guys , and i just wanted to see some pictures of your featherd friends
and i am actually considering a yellow collared one , they seem amazing ! so please share pictures , experiences , etc ...

It's interesting to hear what species are common and available vs hard to get or expensive in different countries.

The Africans are much easier to come by in the US. Macaws of all sizes are never what you'd call cheap here, but then you live right in the macaw's homeland Hope you find just what you are looking for.

one of the birds on the cheaper side here is a gold and blue macaw , which i was so tempted to buy haha just kidding , but in the future i would love to have one , when i live on my own etc...
the most expensive one is the african grey , actually no , the mst expensive one listed on their website is the african grey which is about 6000 reais , but then i asked the price of the galah in the email , and i was shocked , a good 16000
yes 16 thousand , as in 3 zeros , but it is reais , but i still find it expensive

Had to google the conversion rate and $1USD is 2.22 reias. WOW though, a mini macaw for only $270USD? That would be extremely cheap here. However the roughly $7200 a galah would be beyond expensive. Funny how birds have such insanely different prices in different parts of the world!

I have a Yellow Collared (mini) Macaw. She is by far, the sweetest, smartest, most amenable to training out of all of my birds. She is really a dream. She is so loving and devoted. If you have the chance, get to know one. You will fall in love.

i got to know a noble , and yes thre the most adorable animals in this world !
but now i dont know which species to get , i love bigger birds , so the severe of course caught my eye !
but noise level is important to me ... i can handle noise but not if its constantly and 24/7 ...
and the yellow collared one seems amazing ! how big are they , could you compare them in size with another bird ?

i know right ! and the severe macaw is 1100 if you were wondering , im so torn between the 3 species haha , yellow collared or a severe , i love big birds , but with big birds come noise , and i dont know the noise level of the severe

My Hahns macaw is the sweetest bird. If I got a second mini macaw I would like to get either a Yellow Collared (which is around 15 to 16 inches long) or the Illigers macaw which is around 17 inches long. The last two species I mentioned would be around the size of a Amazon.

Severe's tend to have one person issues. Not all of them, it's more a socialization thing than anything. People don't socialize them enough around other people, they form a tight pair bond with their person, and then bite when others try to handle them...

ANY macaw you get needs to be socialized. I've only played with one yellow collared macaw. He was a friend's bird (and he was properly trained and socialized) and he was very well behaved.

I had a noble macaw for almost 18 years. He was a one in a million parrot whom everyone loved. No matter who everyone loved Mihijo. Out of every parrot I have had I found the Noble macaw to be the most even tempered with an extremely outgoing personality. Mihijo would go to anyone willing to have him step up for them. If you had food to share Mihijo would be your friend for life.

What I find typical for a full bred Noble macaw (not crossed with a Hahn's) is they really are wonderful parrots. Quick to learn but not quick to nip or bite. In the almost 18 years I had Mihijo not once has he ever nipped or bit me. Who else can say that? You really cannot go wrong with a Noble macaw for a first parrot.

I took Mihijo's death pretty hard and after the Julio debacle I don't think I could ever have another Noble macaw. They are just too hard to find that are not hybrid and very hard to find one as a baby. I find it interesting that Noble macaws are not very much money where you are at. What country are you from?

As for getting a severe as first bird would not be a good idea in my opinion. I belive that Severe macaws need an experienced owner and one that is totally committed to socializing a severe.

Since I only have one parrot Valentino my RFM I would like to get just one more parrot to help make a flock. Especially now that I am back in the workforce and am gone from the home 9 to 10 hours a day Monday through Friday. I would LOVE to find a yellow collar macaw. The yellow collar and severe are the only mini macaws I have not owned. When I get another parrot I am going to get either a Yellow collar or a Panama Amazon.

My friend put Mihijo in a jar of food. Look at the contentment in his little face. Mihijo was in heaven.

thanks , and yes i probably won't get the severe macaw ...
i live in Brazil , Rio de Janeiro , and actually , i see lots of noble macaws just walking in forests (me and my family love to go to the forest close to our house to feed monkeys lol)
anyway , i am actually going for noble or yellow collared , i have to say like before , i love larger birds , and i am only getting one parrot , thats why YCM is probably higher on my list , but the noble i met was so amazing !
so i am basically doing my research between these 2 ...
i would love to have a parrot on the quieter side ... i know every parrot makes noise , but it would be great to have one that didnt make too much noise , morning and evening call i can handle
and i love parrots mumbling ! but if they scream the entire day ... that would be a problem ...
i do have school so i am out of the house 8 to 10 hours , but my mom works from home , she only goes to the gym every day , but it wont be a problem ...

i am really torn between the 2 species ...

Noblemacaw, has given me a lot of useful information about mini macaws. It may sound strange but as of right now Captain Jack's traits are more like Mihijo's traits then the stereotypical feisty Hahns macaw. Of course birds do have different personalities (for example one Green Cheek conure I had was mellow while another liked to bite anyone that was not me).
