So after seeing pictures and watching videos, I was really inspired to make one for my conures, since they love their boing so much I figured it would be easy to get them warmed up to a stand.
I also spent almost all of the time assembling it/wrapping it in front of them while they were out, so they got to watch mommy "play" with it and make them super curious.. before I was done Kiwi was standing on it watching me!! :p

So I'm probably leaving their boing outside of their cage, rather than put it inside the larger one that I'm gonna be getting for them. They can get java perches/etc for the inside of their cage, the boing will stay outside. :) (Maybe a small one for the inside.. hehe)

Only got one good picture("Good" is a loosely used term. Camera phones, yknow?) But they're both at it chewing and climbing.. I'm so glad they like it!!!

I'll also be making them ladders/toys as time goes on. Figured it's about time I start making them rather than buying them. :)

P.S Please excuse the small cage.. I got it a long time ago before I knew anything about cage requirements for a conure, and since I got them both off craigslist, it's still quite a bit larger than the cages they were in!!! But as mentioned several times prior I *am* getting them a much, much larger cage. Although they don't mind their current one as really they only sleep in it.. and it's on the ground since I was moving stuff around/trying to clean bird seed and leftover chunks of toys! Hehe. They have almost all day every day outside of their cage, and lots of attention and good food. So I promise they're healthy and happy!:D

Wow, That is amazing!!! I'm not creative enough to come up with something like that on my own, but I'm a great copycat... I can't afford one of the nice java stands, so I've been pottin around on getting anything. I just haven't found something else I really like that I think my girl would actually use, but she loves her small cage boing, so I think she would love this! Anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying I LOVE what you came up with, and hope you don't mind, but I am definitely going to try to copy for my birdie!!!

it's so simple, but yet awesome for people with space limitations! awesome job! you have inspired me to try something for my own playgym here!

I LOVE that stand! And like DallyTskuka says, ideal for a small space...which is what ihave!

Thanks for sharing!

Sweet stand, Ashley! It's obviously enjoyable to your fids and it's also easy on the eyes! Not an easy accomplishment. What type of rope is that wrapped around the post? And while we're at it, what is that post from and what are the perches made of?

Thanks guys! I'm really happy with it. I'm thinking about drilling a hole out of the bottom of their cat-box that sits on top of their cage and just mounting it on top of the exposed wooden section on top.. So they have a cubby/hideaway too! They love stuff like that hehe.

This is the thread that *really* inspired me, so you can thank KiwiPlusUs for that: http://www.parrotforums.com/do-yourself/42334-diy-bird-play-stand.html

The dowels are untreated pine, I know people don't really recommend it because it's easily destroyed, but my conures have never been interested in chewing on their perches. They'd rather preen/chew on the toys.
And it's wrapped with 100% natural/organic jute twine. It took waaay more time to wrap it than I thought it would, but this way they can climb on it if they want :) (Kiwi already has.. haha.)

And of course all the pieces that are holding the boing/toys on are stainless steel. No exposed hooks, screws, etc that they can hurt themselves on.

:D:D:D

LOVE this!
Our birdie girl came with a play stand. I looked around online and similar ones are $600 plus.
I'd love to build one for her (for different rooms or for our RV). Can you estimate what the materials cost?

The thread I linked estimated around $50 or less, of course taxes and prices will be different anywhere you are.
However I didn't use any sort of stain or anything on the base of mine(Figured it's gonna have to be cleaned so often anyway, no point in making it the most beautiful part!) so it was probably $40~ or so.. and I have an extra dowel and more of that twine so I plan on making a ladder and some toys too.
I already had the toys/boing rope perch, but if you were to buy new toys or a rope perch for the stand those alone would probably be ~30 (depending on where you go/order from, and then shipping.)
Definitely worth it IMO. Not only does it make you feel special cause your birds are enjoying something you made yourself, but if you don't like something, change it! You'll never have the feeling of "Well, It's nice and all for $200, but I wish this was different.." etc. :D

Thank you Sterling1113!!! I'm so glad my video helped you in creating your amazing play gym stand. It's looks GREAT! I love your idea with the curly rope! I might use that for my Kiwi's ;)

Hehe thank YOU!

The rope perch is their favourite- from one Kiwi to another.. I'd be willing to bet yours will love it too!
