In the wake of Scout's death two new birds have unexpectedly joined our flock.

The first is Tex, a Cinnamon/Turquoise GCC named Tex. He thought it was cool to bite anyone who wasnt me, and me if I touched anyone else, but he is a fast learner and now steps up without biting for my husband, myself, and female strangers (still looking for male volunteers). He also talks up a storm, but the funniest thing is the absolutely aggressive way he cuddles. Never have I seen a bird cuddle this hard. Not only will he rub his head back and forth all over your shoulder, face, neck, hand, etc, but he loves to burrow in and out of long hair, almost swimming through it. It doesnt seem to excite him or cause him to bite and he has not tried to mount anyone, and he will do it now to any person who allows him, and happily hop up to an offered hand.

The second bird is a dominant silver white face split to pied female cockatiel who walked up to a friend of ours while he was cleaning his Harley. We named her Battle, and she is fully flighted but only uses her flight to pursue you is you dare to leave her! She also came to us believing that her chosen mate must never leave her sight, but was more of a screamer than a biter. She is also a snuggler of a new sort in this house - a head butter to the core! She is mad at me right now so she will hiss, toss her head like she is going to bite me, and then head but me for sctiches - hard! She pushes her head and face against our faces and hands REALLY HARD and closes her eyes immediately, turns her head upside down, etc for the scritches. I have always had cuddly birds but these two take it to a whole new level!

The heartbreaking thing is to see how much these two love humans, yet neither is with the family they know. I am almost certain Tex was surrendered to the pet store because of his biting, and circumstances lead me to believe the Battle was released intentionally to fend for herself. Both just want to be loved and be part of a flock! We are quite attached to both already!

That truly touched my heart. How amazing is it that they still gives us their trust and love after getting disappointed or abandoned by their previous owners. Give lots and lots of cuddles! They deserve it!

Ooooohhh I love both species. My experience has been with them that they love the cuddles. So glad they are with you!

I'm happy for you that you've got some new little lovers, they sound like they mean business about it :) Our green cheek is bitey with people he's not around as much, but he's stopped biting me now and steps up without drawing blood. It took two weeks after getting him from our local "Poke a Bird Pet Dive-oh I mean Store" for him to stop trying to bite me. He still defends his cage like everyone is out to destroy all he holds dear, but that's probably a learned behavior from years of being a breeder bird and people robbing his chicks out from under him.

It sounds like you'll have better luck with yours, and that's amazing about the cockatiel just showing up! I'm happy she was found before something happened to her in the wild. Here she would have ended up hawk bait in short order :(

How sweet! Any pics? I'd love to see a pic of the tiel especially..... I've got a soft spot for Cockatiels!
