Female ekkie showing signs of aggression

Please help. I have a 1 year old Female Solomon Island Eclectus. I have had her since she was 8 weeks old and she was hand raised. She is a loveable, cuddly bird that enjoyed sitting by me, but since she turned 1 years old she has started showing signs of aggression towards me. She does not want to be handled and lunges at me when i get to close to he. She also does not want to climb up onto her training branch (she attacks it). All she wants to do is be left alone in her cage. Is she going through "hormonal" changes or could there be other problems.

She might be going through her hormonal changes! Have anything changed lately??? Does she come out on her own when you leave the cage door open???

Hi MikeyTN. No nothing has changes lately. She does come out of her cage on her own. I have noticed that if she is not on her cage she is willing to be picked up without biting, but as soon as she is on the cage she does not want to be touched. How long will the hormonal change last approximately and will her personality return to the loveable parrot she was?

One of my females has been cage aggressive since she was quite young. In the wild the females aggressively procure and defend their nest sites due to high competition and a lack of good nesting sites. That is her space and I respect it without letting her have the upper hand. I learned to deal with it by not putting my hand in her cage to get her but instead use a stick with the step up command she steps up and then once the stick and her are out of the cage I ask her to step up again onto my hand which she does without issue. I can re-arrange toys or clean her cage with her in it without any problems, she just has never wanted me to reach in to get her. That being said we keep a pretty regular schedule and when she knows it's out play time she will run to the front of the cage and step out onto my hand without issue. I also don't ask her to come out unless I know she is good and full. These gals love their food and a hungry ekkie is a very grumpy girl indeed.
