So, My kids are going to stay with their grandma for a whole month!!!! (this has never happened before!)

We have planned multiple vacations over the time but there is a week free.... my husband is in alaska for work, and our exchange student leaves in july....

Tonight I got the wild brained idea that I could literally buy a ticket to Australia and visit my uncle who moved there before i was born and cousins I've never met next week! and have no responsibilities..... except for the birds, rabbits, and dog..... and our exchange student .... he goes back to germany in july, and I would miss out on time with him.... but it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity, because the tickets from hawaii are only 1100$ and the kids are gone.... So why do i feel so guilty....

It would mean I would have to have someone watch my birds for 3 weeks in the next month :( some of which are still hand feeding.... Thankfully i have a huge support system who I'm sure would help but..... ugh, i don't want to ask for another week of help when i already have to ask for so much..... but gosh the possibility excites me so much my heart is beating out of my chest....
I want to go so bad!

what to do what to do......

Life is short.
Go. :)

Yup, I agree. This is a fantastic opportunity, and with your awesome support system - get packing! :D

Yes, take this great opportunity while you have the chance!

I agree! You should go...I think that we often regret more the things we didn't do than the things we did:)

Definitely go! You may not ever get this opportunity again! Life is too short not to live it! ;) Your fids will be fine and I am sure the people you plan to ask for help would be more then happy to knowing that you have this great opportunity! Good luck and keep us posted! :D

I'm waiting on an email bAck from the Australian relatives to say if they can Accomodate a visit or not. :) if they don't answer soon I will have to call cause I barely slept last night thinking about it.

I agree with all of the prior encouraging posts with one caveat: what of the hand-feeding chicks? If your support system can be completely trusted with that awesome responsibility, by all means go!! Hand-feeding is both science and art, with all the attendant potentialities, particularly if early in the process.

It's unanimous! :) GO Ariel!!! That sort of opportunity might not present itself to you for a while again. Keep us posted!

Yeahp! Maybe we're peer pressuring you but I think a little bit of a vacation time would be great for a Mom! You're birds are so well socialize, having someone watch them would be a piece of cake.
You pretty much know all the breeders on the island, do you know if one doesn't have to hand-feed right now?

Well I heard from the family in Australia. Unfortunately they will be vacationing the exact week I would be able to go! But they said if I manage to be able to go any other week that they would love to have me. Darn. It was perfect too! Oh well. Dani had agreed to watch the birds and baby birds.

But we're going to be island hopping this summer so we're still going to be on a vacation.

:(
That's disappointing!
