We have had Jojo for about 6 months now, he is settled in his cage well & has started playing with toys.

We can go in his cage to change food/water and he wont move off his swing.

We have started sitting next to his treat bowl & adding treats to try and get him to take them whilst we are next to his cage.

We are also sitting next to his cage with food on our hands for him to come & get some.

Is there anything else we should be doing?

I understand this is going to take a while, it just feels like we are doing this for weeks on end & getting no where.

Your doing well, so is your parrot. Look at the positives - ( or the things he is NOT doing). He is NOT running over to bite your hand when you change the water/food.
He is NOT thrashing and throwing himself on the bottom of his cage when your near.
He IS playing with toys.

I'd try offering a treat ( ppine nut) through the bars. one at a time. Sing to him. Read a book aloud to him. Talk to him. All done quietly and sound interested. Parrots are very perceptive. If you sound bored or scared, or disinterested, they will pick up on that. Re:treat - find out his absolute most favorite , gotta have it treat. Offer little pieces of that, thru the ars, or MAYBE a peice in your open palm inside the cage. hold hand steady, and let him come over to you for it. Really, your doing well, just more patience. Dont give up. If its more then one person, make sure every action is done exactly the same way. g/l

Thanks Wrench13

I guess your right, we've had tamed birds in the past & just really want him tame too, so guess were being a little impatient.

We are sat next to his cage every night with apple & peanuts. (he loves both) to try & get him to come and get those whilst we are next to his cage. Then we will move on to offering him food from our hands.

Peanuts are not really the best thing to give your parrot, even though he likes them.
The shells can carry fungus, and parrots can get addicted to them. Lke I said try pine nuts instead, or Nutraberries. Hint: if you write to the various manufacturers of bird foods and treats, they will send you samples, so you dont need t buy a big bag, only to have your parrot turnn up his nose and refuse them. Other well known parrot treats:
Popcorn
Oat groats
Oatmeal
Walnuts

Apple and other fruits are good, you can try dried fruits as treats

Treats are best given in small amounts. Its a treat, not dinner!

Doing well joJo !
