Feathers EVERYWHERE...molting maybe?

Poor Skye! I’m fairly sure he just started molting. Or plucking. He has tiny white feathers EVERYWHERE. when I say everywhere I mean inside the cage, on the dresser, all over the floor next to the cage...and they are all small feathers. He fluffs and shakes a bit and poof, feathers floating from every direction. Most are all white, some have blue or yellow tips. They all seem to be small as well. He doesn’t seem to be picking them but they certainly are making quite a bit of a mess. Oh well, the mess can be cleaned. But the poor baby. To get a new home and molt in the SAME WEEK? I attached a pic. This is about 2 hours AFTER I swept the other feathers feathers up. Man, those things are hard to get up by the way. The just poof when you try to sweep them up! There’s also a small piece of millet in the pic too! He’s been picking that pretty consistently.

Could be molting. Mine finished not long ago. Parakeets don't typically pluck.
But they do seem to always be loosing the fluffy feathers. Yours look like bigger feathers so I'd say molt.

Parakeets are messy. Well all birds are messy....
You could try using acrylic and cut to frame the lower portion of the cage to help contain mess.
I think it's safe as some new cages use it. But I'm not completely sure.... Wevhscevwuse members that might weigh in????

Yes, its very likely molting. Huge swings in the weather this Fall and now early Winter has our Great White North Parrots all over the board regarding whether to or when to start molting in preparation for the coldness of Winter. So, they tend to have blow-up moments.

There are times that our home appears to have Julio and a bunch of his fellow Amazons over for a molting party. Or, Help, I Think My Amazon Just Blew-Up!

Kids are messy too! I gave up on a spotless home a few years ago. I don’t mind the feathers. I’ll just squirt them with water first. Lol.

The weather in RI this fall has been crazy. It’s 60 one day, then 30 the next. Then down to 20 and back up to 50’s the following day. And that’s in 1 week. It’s been insane! Gotta love New England and weather. I’m wondering if the shorter days have something to do with the molt cycle? Sunrise is just before 7AM and sunset is before 4:30PM...

There is no question that the amount of daylight has a clear effect as when everything else is screwy, the available Sunlight and its measured shift is a steady reminder of the coming Winter or Summer.

We went from 80 to 30 tonight! Crazy weather for sure!!!! I saw a tree blooming! We had a shift if hit to cold a few weeks ago then back to hot now brrr again.

And the forum is lit up with hormonal parrots!!

Oh no, that sounds way more extreme than here. I hope you have heat!

I do, but we don't have the same furnaces you do up north. Nor the good insulation.
When it it hits 20 they don't keep up
But I have a rare Florida fireplace!!

It's been crazy with 50 degree temps swings!
But it's hard to complain it's Florida, it's not snow and ice storms

I’m in So. Cal. Mid 90s just over a week ago. Snow on thanksgiving. Now COLD and RAINY. I wish mr weather would choose a side.

True, but it’s worse for people who aren’t used to the temps and don’t have heat that keeps up! Hopefully you weather gets back to normal soon!

That’s quite a shift in temps. I think I’ll take my crazy New England weather. At least it’s supposed to snow here.

It isn't unusual for my truck to look like Christmas threw up in it the way Belle and Beau Dandy lose fluffy feathers, it does get a bit more intense during a molt, but it never really stops with them, every few days I notice a feather or two somewhere it wasn't before.

It’s busy out the small handheld vacuum bad. I had no idea such a tiny bird could lose so many feathers!
