Feather tether

Is anyone familiar with this type of leash?

Would it be safe to use?

Depends on the bird... stretchy is good by be sure it can't be easily chewed through.

Is that a leg tether? While these are very popular in Asia ( saw lots of them in Hong Kong and China), they are not considered safe by modern aviculturists. Parrot legs are not like raptor legs, which are a lot heavier built and made for crushing windpipes and neck bones and carrying prey up to tree and nests. Parrot legs and claws are made for picking up food and manipulating it - a lot lighter duty, don't you agree? Google parrot harness - there are several different manufacturers out there, and these are much safer for the birds.

I gave this a quick Google cause I thought it was too but it's a longer leash for the feather tether which is a aviator like harness.

Heads up though. According to reviews I saw the sizing is on the big side and I saw people saying if you have a small bird to steer clear of it. Aviator is a great brand bt, similar to this one but much better reviews.

Guessing that is a flight line to allow for a bird to go longer distances while harnessed? If so, be sure it can't be chewed through (looks from the photo like theres a steel cable in it, but with a larger bird that could still be bitten through). Otherwise, I don't see why there would be an issue. Use common sense and try it out indoors before taking outside. Your bird may be able to unclip it, your bird may be prone to tangling itself in it etc... so best to find those things out not outside

Not sure about smaller sizes for smaller birds, but I've been working with Kiwi with the feather tether. The medium size has adjustable "buckles". The first time hubby got it on him it was too big. Adjusted the buckles and the few times hubby has wrangled him in the thing since it fits fine. Hoping the OP is working with young birds, harness training an older ornerier bird is no fun at all!

Thanks for all the responses. I may still have my doubts about this feather tether and will not get one yet! Too worried that Mango may get out of it.
