I am currently read a book entitled Animal Wisdom, about cognitive and other studies and what we are learning about animals brains and how they work. Because of a mix-up, there was a last-minute change this week for the radio show, and I needed to find someone to fill in. As there is a whole chapter in the book about African Grey studies, in particular, I ended up have Dr. Irene Pepperberg on the radio show, who has done completely fascinating work studying how parrots learn, and how they think, whether they understand numbers, etc. etc. I thought of all of you as I was speaking to her, and it turns out she is local to me! She works at Harvard and at Brandeis University, which are in my town (the latter) and a town away (the former). How cool is that? Once I get the audio files, would you guys want to listen? It is for All Paws Pet Talk Radio and I may even be able to have her on again sometime!

Great idea
I am all for it, would be very interesting
Go for it !!!!

Okay, guys, when I get the audio files, I'll let you know! Anotoinette, I thought of Mishka when she was talking about Alex!

Certainly would like to hear those audio files! Dr. Pepperberg's studies are fascinating, and it will be great to hear what she has to say.

I would love to hear the audio! I have read a lot about Dr. Pepperberg and Alex (I also know she has new research birds now, but I haven't heard as much about her current progress with them). She truly has a gift of being able to bring out the intelligence these amazing animals posses. One thing I have always been curious about was why Alex was a plucker. Seems a bird who had that much "attention" and acheived that level of intelligence wouldn't have developed that kind of problem. I would be VERY interested on her take on this matter, as well as what she has been doing with her current birds. Please keep us posted if she will be on again, especially if she's accepting call-in questions on the show :)

Awesome! I red Alex and Me and loved it" I would love to meet her greys
