Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
The question has been raised. Why do some species of amazons spread their tail feathers and some do not. Salty has yet to do that , under any circustances. Almost all the videos I've seen with the hot 3 , YNA, DYHA, BFA, and the parrot is vocalizing, have them also spreading them wide. Any one seen other species do this? Or have one of the smaller 'zons, like YSA, or Panamas, or WFA, that don't do this?

Better temperament and manners than the larger, feistier zons? Kiwi spreads his tail often. One must read him carefully to know if in excitement/happiness or anger/rage.

Oliver never fanned his tail unless he was excited, territorially weird, or mad. We never tried to touch him when he was being wide-tailed.

Only one partial tail fan from Kizzy so far. She was in the shower and very excited. No, I'm not much to look at naked. XD

Our LCA spread her tail feathers whenever she would sing or provide the sweet sounds of a wild catch adult Amazon. She was a real sweet heart, never recall her getting mad or hormonal. That didn't stop her for using my fingers as a chew toy that first year!

Ok, who else has a fan-tastic amazon?

both of my red lored amazons do it.

Buddy is a Green Cheek Amazon, aka Mexican Red Head and fans his tail all the time. When he's happy and when he's mad. He does it mad at Husband, they have a hate/hate relationship that Buddy started. All know to leave Buddy alone no matter how cute he looks. I can interact with him and know when he's happy which is 99% of our time but he loves to flare his tail. I look at his eyes and cheeks to gage his mood.

My Rio, a Green Cheek is about 14 months and consistently fans his tail when talking, playing, and fighting with his toys. Fortunately I have never seen him aggressive or scared.

Charlie, our OWA would patrol up and down the top of her cage, tail fanned, eyes pinned, squawking at me whenever I cleaned her cage! I was not her person needless to say, but I'm happy to say she adored my husband and I have no doubt she was very happy with her true love for the time we had her :)
