Fake plants in cage?

Has anyone ever put fake plants/vines in a large indoor bird cage before??

Do the Macaws try and chew it or just nestle into it?

I was thinking about putting some fake ivy around the corner side of my cage and then covering with a net for climbing.

Does anyone have experience or advice?

Thank you to all who answer.

I don't think it's a good idea. Too easy for the macaw to get a piece of plastic stuck in its throat.

I'm another person for the 'no' department. Too easy for a macaw to destroy and potentially get sick on :(

I have a very hard time keeping the twins from chewing up and destroying some fake plants we have around the house.
Merlin has removed most of the leaves from one “plant”
And keep in mind some artificial plants have a wire core surrounded by plastic.
Birds will get to the wire core faster than a child will get to the center of a Tootsi-pop.

in short no. You won’t be able to watch yor birds 100% of the time.

Thanks for the replies… I’ve scrapped the ivy idea and replaced with a net designed specially for Macaws…

This forum has a SERIOUS shortage of macaw pics, we need some!

Here are some of my baby.. she came home this past Sunday. Since then she’s walked around the lake, hung outside with me, and had her flight suit and harness put on for the first time. Thankfully she’s very patient and forgiving with me!
Soooooo cute!!!

She's adorable and having so much fun!

Smart to introduce the harness - ALWAY have it on when she is outdoors. I was out w/my Amazon the other day and he got startled and took off like a bat. Had he not had his harness on, I'd still be looking for him!

And another vote for no fake plants.
