Kazi - 13 yr old yellow nape amazon rescue
Kazi was having a bad day today or something, but when I went to get him out for breakfast he leapt at my face and latched on to my lip.

2 hours and 11 stitches later I finally got to leave the ER.

Funny, but I always thought my really bad face bite would be a result of having him on my shoulder, not asking if he wanted blueberries with breakfast!

He's getting his evening cuddles now, but keeps going for the stitches. I told him we have to wait till Friday to do that :D

Wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through that~ that's a lot of stitches! feel better :)

WOW, sorry to hear that

Thanks everyone! It really doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would. I took some Advil a little while ago, but it looks a lot worse than it really is. All is forgiven. By the time he was ready for bed everything was back to normal. I think he was just cranky today. I left and did some errands instead of waking him up first and feeding him and I think that just ticked him right off. I thought I could get back before he noticed. Not so, it turns out :D

wow, i am so sorry that happened to you. is the cut swollen or an bruising? i hope you have a swift recovery.

Ouch! I'd be afraid to cuddle for a while. Or kiss. :-(

I think they give more stitches for faces, to help with scarring.

OUCH! Kazi might be hormonal or he just REALLY didn't want blueberries. Needless to say, but if that happened to me, my bird wouldn't be gettin any shoulder time for a long, long time. You are a very forgiving person. If I end up at the emergency room due to one of my animals, then they will be gone. I don't have a problem with the occassional nip or even a bite that breaks the skin, everything can have a bad day, even animals. But if they bite me to the point I have to go to the ER for stitches, then they are showing me that they don't like living with me anymore so I will find them another home.

Mac my eclectus for instance has really been moody and wanting to growl at me even when I pass by his cage. Yesterday, he was wanting to pick at my neck and ear while on my shoulder. I dumped him off and told him no more shoulder time for a while. He's turning 4 this month so I think he's getting hormonal. He's regurgitating on everything in his cage.

Yikes! That is a lot of stitches. Hope you heal quickly and feel better soon.

I've had a few people express disbelief that I would A) still be willing to let him close to my face again and B) still be willing to keep him. But to me, this is just what I signed up for. I have a house full of rescue animals people gave up on. I won't be the next one to give up on them ever. Kazi included. He was hormonal and hungry. I get pretty testy during those times too! I have the control not to leap at someone's face and bite them, but just barely :D

This morning, surprisingly, there is hardly any pain. It's swollen, but it didn't keep me up last night at all and it doesn't hurt now. The doc who stitched me up said he could've closed it with 3 or so stitches, but because part of it was across my lip he wanted to make sure everything lined up exactly during healing, so I got 11.

Ouch so sorry this happened, but with birds it does. My girl gets very testy when my 4 month old granddaughter is over. She is extremely jealous and nippy. She has tried to bite the baby. We have to cage her because she will not stay away from the baby and is quite aggressive. Yesterday when the baby arrived I went to cage her and she drew blood, then just paced and made growling sounds. I plan to move her to another room next time, just so she isnt upset by the baby. She isnt normally like that with any other visitors.

Yiiiii..I always worry about this in the back of mind when I ask for a kiss from Jasper. He's always been sort of prickly but his sweet times more than makes up for it. At the very least if is something that will leave a scar you will have a very interesting to tale to tell about it. :(

Ouch! I'm so sorry that happened. Do watch your eyes next time you are taking his order!

That stinks, I was wincing in sympathy.

Tracy, I'm glad I wasn't the only one wanting pictures! :D I love goobery medical stuff.
