Hi everyone! I haven't been very active on this forum for awhile, but I had to come back with some exciting news. I have much experience with parrots and currently own a quiet, sweet RB2 who loves to wear her aviator harness outside to fly on a line and yell at the other birds. With my work schedule (I get to work at 4am HA), Inca is only alone for four waking hours a day. I came upon a dna'd female 4 year old Goffin's that a former coworker is selling and after much internal debate have decided to take her in. She's (apparently) a screamer, not a plucker, and a lifelong straight seed addict. I have a surgery coming up and a trip so I've decided to hold off for her sake until the beginning of June. I've already begun preparing for her and will be sending over a bag of my Harrison's so she can work on converting ASAP since it's going to take awhile. After $300 at the vet, she is considered in good shape with a slight calcium deficiency. I was worried about her liver and other vitamin deficiencies so I am relieved that this is all I need to worry about health wise.
I think Inca will be excited as she lived around many species of birds for about two years before I purchased her from the bird store I worked at... but I'm not getting my hopes up and we'll take it slow. As an aside, Inca is IN LOVE with the Bird Sitter DVD I just bought her. Anyone else have it?
I've handreared, socialized and trained over 50 birds from 'tiels to Harlequin Macaws... however not ONE Goffin's in that time. Interestingly, I've heard so much about 'toos being notoriously hard to wean but I never had an issue with the U2s I raised... my only difficult to wean bird was a Catalina Macaw! I've been reading over a lot of stories from Goffin's owners and I generally feel comfortable with this considering my experience and preparation.
Thanks for letting me spill some of my excitement- pretty sure my boyfriend has heard more than enough of it. I'm lucky that he's so accepting... perhaps he feels bad that Inca has decided to prefer him!
