I'm going to bold my questions so you won't have to be reading that much. I'll be stopping by some hardware stores tomorrow to start getting supplies for bird play gyms. And while we are out I'm going to start collecting supplies to make toys to lower toy prices. I'm going to try make the Mesquite for the parakeets after they are thoroughly washed and prepared, but if it doesn't work, they'll be getting new perches.

I'm also thinking about making one out of dowels/wood and possibly one out of PVC piping, though I'm not sure which one would be "better". This is the biggest issue right now. I'd like to make a wood playgym but it seems way more complicated than making PVC playgyms. To counter it, designing a PVC one is much harder because of all the connecting parts. Do you guys have any insight or personal opinions about them?

I have made many pvc playgyms. Here is a link to my blog page on my DIY projects:

The Sweet Life Of A Parrot: DIY Projects!

Scroll down and you will see a few different kinds. You can combine pvc & wood. [emoji6]

Oh wow, I was using your linnie playground as a reference to a PV structure! If you don't mind, I'd like to use the mid section of Savannah's one.

Ultimately I think I'll be doing what you said and combining wood and PVC since I was told Mesquite is more fragile (though I kept insisting on using it).

Go right ahead! I share them to give others ideas. ;) Good luck and be sure to share pics! :)

The pictures are my favorite part! It might have to be just the haul though, but still!

The branches I took had thorns that shriveled up and were really easy to remove. I'm still going to use sandpaper like Kiwibird said.

Sounds like they will be great! Pics of the haul is a great start!

i have to find the receipt to figure the cost of it all, but I'm going to be needing 2 more 10 ft. PVC pipes so far along with more Eye Hooks, Stainless steel nails, vet wrap, and perches and toys. I didn't want to spend over $100 for a drill so I'm going to see if my neighbor has one.

Right now I'm designing it still but decided it would be a good idea to have them around to wash earlier. The only issue is that I changed my plans a bit and tried to incorporate the branches I took so I have to cut them down a bit.

I was also wondering if these two items were safe. I'd like to use the rope for toys and the fruits as foot toys.
