As some of you know I am adopting two new birds from my cousin on Saturday
One is a white cap Pionus, and the other is a female Jardine.
I am very excited about both birds coming here, along with that comes new challenges and fun. I LOVE learning about new species and interacting with them.

BUT I'll be honest, I am concerned about the Jardine. Being in the POI family and owning one myself, they are certainly a challenge.

I'm really expecting the Pionus to be the more easy going one, and adapting to change more easily, than the Jardine....but that is only a guess.

I'm putting the Jardine beside my senegal so they can get use to one another.

One thing I am really concerned about, is when I let my other birds out, I know them, they will fly right to their cages, and crawl all over them.
I hoping this won't send the Jardine into a state of panic or chaos.
I know she may lunge at the birds as they too will have to learn about territory.
Neither two birds are use to being around other birds, and I don't want them overwhelmed.

I was thinking about doing it gradually, my cockatiels one day, the next day can be my 3 lovebirds, and then Safari, my Senegal.
I am so hoping and keeping my fingers and toes crossed that Safari and the Jardine become friends, and not want to kill each other.

I plan on keeping them in their cages for the first 3-4 days so they can get use to the routine, sounds, lighting, noises etc...
I'll play it by ear, and body language and see how comfortable they are before I let them out.
the last thing I want is to start chasing birds around trying to get them back into their cages, that would not be a positive start by any means.
Any other suggestions??? I'm kind of stressing over this, which is not like me at all, I just want to be prepared as best as I can be:cool::eek:

Could you have the new birds in another room where they can get comfy and listen to their new flock mates?

Oh I wish!! I am maxed out for space in our other rooms.
I have my bird room, and our bedroom that is it.

Our bedroom is quite a good size, in total I'll have 8 cages in there.

Don't be stressing! You'll do fine in whatever you decide to do as this isn't your first time getting new birds. You'll figure out what's best for them! ;)

yeah, your right, but there is just something about this Jardine I'm not sure of, maybe cause I have Safari, and I know how temper mental Poi's can be.

why am I stressing Mikey?? that's not like me at all

I would crack up if the Jardine surprises you :)

I'm SO excited for you/with you! :D

thanks!
watch him be a super puddle!,lol, and the pionus the terror, haha.
oh my goodness, I guess I'll have to wait and see.....

how the heck am I going to get them out of the carriers, and into the cages?
I guess I can use a perch and hopefully they won't fly off, oh crap, more stress, lol:eek:

Open the cage then open the carrier and hold it at the entrance and see if they would get out into the cage on their own.

that's what I've always done, I just want things to go smooooooothly,
....still excited, it will just be a long day, an hour drive each way, truck loaded with 2 big cages, 2 birds, and plenty of stuff.
