As some of you know I am adopting two new birds from my cousin on Saturday
One is a white cap Pionus, and the other is a female Jardine.
I am very excited about both birds coming here, along with that comes new challenges and fun. I LOVE learning about new species and interacting with them.
BUT I'll be honest, I am concerned about the Jardine. Being in the POI family and owning one myself, they are certainly a challenge.
I'm really expecting the Pionus to be the more easy going one, and adapting to change more easily, than the Jardine....but that is only a guess.
I'm putting the Jardine beside my senegal so they can get use to one another.
One thing I am really concerned about, is when I let my other birds out, I know them, they will fly right to their cages, and crawl all over them.
I hoping this won't send the Jardine into a state of panic or chaos.
I know she may lunge at the birds as they too will have to learn about territory.
Neither two birds are use to being around other birds, and I don't want them overwhelmed.
I was thinking about doing it gradually, my cockatiels one day, the next day can be my 3 lovebirds, and then Safari, my Senegal.
I am so hoping and keeping my fingers and toes crossed that Safari and the Jardine become friends, and not want to kill each other.
I plan on keeping them in their cages for the first 3-4 days so they can get use to the routine, sounds, lighting, noises etc...
I'll play it by ear, and body language and see how comfortable they are before I let them out.
the last thing I want is to start chasing birds around trying to get them back into their cages, that would not be a positive start by any means.
Any other suggestions??? I'm kind of stressing over this, which is not like me at all, I just want to be prepared as best as I can be
