American Bulldog Mix,
I did not know birds can fly sideways!!!! SO interesting, but awkward looking. Hubby held her up back to her stand and told he to fly to it and usually she will turn around then fly or go up straight, turn around in the air towards her stand and then fly, but this time she went to fly straight up and turn around, but only turned halfway and awkwardly flew sideways/slanted towards her stand. Interesting though.

Imagine if you had wings what you'd do! Flight is such a magnificent gift. I often watch my birds, and wild birds, flying, and think how incredible that must be. I have a Lovebird that is such an aerial acrobat! He does tight hairpin turns, loops, and momentary hovers! Some of my birds are clipped, and some not. When I HAVE to clip one of them, for their own good, I feel such a twinge in my heart.

I love the way the RFM flies. Valentino is only 5 months old and flies like he has been doing it for years. I do not regret not having his wings clipped by the breeder (she will only give RFM wing clips which does not take away all their power of flight but does take some. I am not sure how she clips the wings for the new homes) I am always amazed watching Valentino fly in my home.

Although having a baby flighted parrot does present some issues I readied my house for his homecoming and compensated for a flighted baby. Not once has my baby RFM wreaked anything in my home because of flying in it. He is graceful, powerful, precise, and he is getting FAST. I have not seen him fly sideways yet and I need to teach him how to fly "down" to me from the second floor of my home but all in all his flying skills this early are off the charts for me.

Please if you don't mind I would love to see pictures of your Erin. At 5 months of age Valentino is the Red Cheeked Macaw because not one red feather appears on his front.

Here are some pictures of Valentino for you.

Valentino had just landed on my hand. He was flying around wet after his sink bath.

He is the cutest! I never had Erin, or Elvis, as a baby, s I envy you so much! I will be putting pictures up tonight of Erin that I've taken the last few days. Her feathers may be chewed up and some are just white down, but she is still a beauty with her personality and her kisses and her joy when she flies.

Oh and to teach him to fly down to you, put him up on a door and reach up and have him step down your hand and then increase the distance, so it's a stretch, then jump, then fly. WIth them being on something as high as a door you can make the flight down to you as steep or difficult as you want.

:54: I don't know what you're talking about lol :54:
She flies all day practically. Constantly landing on my shoulder or next to me :)

I know the feeling, mine aren't let loose til late afternoon, but going into the bird area/kitchen is pretty much a guarantee one or both are gonna land on me. (GW's)

Unless I walk really fast!!!! :D

Haha tried that and failed miserably. Erin doesn't care how fast you're walking she'll land on you- it may not be your shoulder- but your head or back or grasping for dear life in your hair but she'll land on you lol

LOL :) I kinda doubt my GW's are as quick and graceful as Erin! I haven't checked in probably 6 months but their wingspan has gotta be getting close to 4' by now.

ReaRea rarely flies now a days, no idea why, she prefers walking for some reason unless its a real short distance. Rea did surprise me a few weeks ago, did you see the pic of her hanging upside down in the doorway???:D

Now Miri.......She's got skills!!

Lol I didn't see the picture but sounds like she's getting lazy lol. I make Erin walk down the hall and up or down stairs as she was given those feet for a reason, although often she thinks she only has wings. She will fly 6 inches to her waterbowl on her stand just so doesnt have to walk the perch
