There was a release recently of captive endangered orange-bellied parrot. They are the only species of migratory parrot. They are scary times when releasing 24 birds doubles a breeding population... Lets hope they pull through and migrate back with the wild birds.

That's so sad that the birds in the previous release died. Fingers crossed for these ones. It's a very beautiful species. I wonder why they are the only species that migrates.

What a beautiful species that is. This is one of those times we can all be grateful that there is a captive population in order to help bring an endangered population back from the brink of extinction.

Yeah maybe. Like always the captive population is a last resort and previous releases have been unsuccessful. If the remaining migratory birds die out then they will most likely go extinct in the wild for good. Captive birds just don't get the migration thing. Let's hope the wild birds can teach the captive birds this year
