Parrots
Lilo - Female Green Cheek Conure ~ Pal - male cockatiel ~ Pheobe - female cockatiel
Does anyone have one or know of one? I looked them up on google images and they are beautiful! But they seem rare. I was told they are a hybrid between a Hyacinth and a great green. Does anyone have more info? :)

I think anyone who hybridizes a hyacinth and Buffons should be beat. Jmo.

Agreed. I'll hold him down, you beat him with a stick!

Both species are critically endangered. There aren't enough of the pure bred species to cross breed these for "designer birds" in my opinion...

Regardless of how people feel about hybrids, Emeralds are definitely beautiful birds.

I was reading a write up the other day about the cross breeds. Some say they do it because of the laws in place. It allows them to by pass any permits they need to breed pure. In my opinion
That SUCKS and I will help hold them down.

Most of the time hybrids don't bother me...

But big blues are just magnificent creatures, and you can't improve on perfection. Their numbers are actually coming up through captive breeding.

Great green macaws are almost gone... we need to save the species on this one.

We also need to do conservation and captive breeding on blue throats and red fronts, as they are now almost gone...

I can't agree with that. When I look at an "emerald" macaw all I see is how they've ruined two endangered beautiful birds.

I don't like the practice of hybrids, but I don't think people are terrible for having them out wanting them, but IMO this particular hybrid should never have happened. I've never seen a buffons in the pet trade. Hys are endangered, but I would bet the buffons is even more so.

I've got to agree with Karen on this one. Not a fan of how they look.

Oh no! I didn't even think of that :( That is a dumb idea to breed two endangered birds! I guess for some people, its all for the money! :(

I hope for the emerald macaws that are alive, that they have good homes! It really makes me mad when people breed animals, any animal for just an accessory! :(

Hycinith Macaws are my dream bird. Lets just say this is a dream and kind of an impossible one the money but I dont agree with the hybrid breeding. It may cause disease and the emerald macaw's color is pretty but IMO it looks a little awkward but thats my opinion.

I saw a baby male Hyacinth today at the bird store that regularly has Hy's.
All I could say was WOW it's head is BIG! Have you seen one in person? It is absolutely massive, and amazes me everytime I see one. Hubby jumps at the chance to pick them up and cuddle them. Truth be told, even though I'm a more experienced bird person than him, I'm a wimp when it comes to it... it just freaks me out (the size). Even the babies make the B&G's look so small lol!

Ya! There is a parrot shop on Mercer island that has a hyhy. She is full grown and is huge! The blue and golds look like parakeets against her! :p

I would love to see a hy in "real life"! I've only seen pictures and videos online... They are beautiful and so majestic!

Beautiful! They are amazing! If you ever hear of one around you, it is so worth the trip to see them! :D They are amazing! But they take good care of her and that helps the experience. But still, so beautiful!

I have never interacted with one but saw one at a parrot show at Gulf World in Panama City. Now the bird show that comes to Tallahassee once a year has some macaws. They had one adult Blue and Gold a few baby greenwings and a few hahns. The only bird that has made me nervous was an excited amazon. The eyes are what really got me. I still love an amazon though.

I don't agree with cross breeding species of animals to produce a "designer pet". These Hybrid species can have defective genes which result in heath issues and short lives. What I also can't understand is why someone would spent all that time and effect to produce a animal that can have health issues. but what's even more mind boggling is that they are using endangered species. It would be better to use that time and effect to breed the endangered species.

From a breeder perspective, surely it would be more profitable to breed and sell endangered species than a Hybrid.
